LD28 Hydrolocked

Postby defender » Wed Dec 16, 2015 10:59 am

yep, it finally happened... lesson learnt .....

was going through a deep stream and my manifold between the turbo and intake came off, sitting low in the car the manifold sucked water right into the engine, seizing it and yeah.
got towed out and home (god bless you random stranger)
and now I'm looking at taking the engine apart and finding out how bad things are,
other than bent rods what other components could be buggered ?
now in the market for an LD28!!!, need it soon so if anyone knows anything that could help you can get me on 0210601296

thanks guys
work hard play hard.

Pretty much just bent rods (given they are an OHC) but you never know until you pull it apart.. Where abouts in the country are you? I know of an ld28 in Wellington floating around

just sorted an LD28 in cambridge, getting it freighted soon, 1400$ inc freight :D
I'm in CHCH.

just removed glow plugs and one was bent/broken, think there is no fixing the engine right now...

$1400, better be a pretty darn good condition factory turbo for that price
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

Have you got off road insurance cover? It has been known that insurance cover will pay for engine repairs in similar conditions.

Rather than a Nissan engine, a good 300tdi transplant would be preferable.

the thing is i need the car going soon and my funds arent endless for different engine mounts and the other various things that i would need. yeah i could get a 200tdi for that kinda price, but its the exact same engine and so the swap will be easy/not as time consuming.
also the LD28 are pretty reliable (when they haven't been soaked haha)
