Jump starting a VX 80 series Cruiser

Postby kiwipete » Sat May 07, 2016 9:25 pm

Hi guys.
What's the go with jump starting a VX 80 series dual battery cruiser?
I went to start mine today and the batteries were as flat as. She has been parked up for just over a week.

I used 2 spare batteries and 2 sets of leads but is there an easier way?
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

Tis the only way as you need 24v for the starter

Always wondered but never got round to testing - Does this put 24V back into the two batteries jumping the car?

My old man got the AA out after leaving some interior light on for a week, The guy initally tried to jump it with 12V not believing it was 24V starting
After some convincing over the phone and locating the series parallel switch. he jumped from his ute's [12V] to the 80s main / driver side battery and his jump pack onto the pax side battery.

Started up after split second cranking. Would this have put 24V back into his car - albeit temporarily?

If you need to jump start it, you should do it off the drivers side battery.

You will only get 24v if you cross the neg on 1 bat with the pos on the second unit whilst starting.
As the doner isnt contacting the second bat then you will only see 12v
