My Stock Jimny at Red Rocks
Took my finacee out in the Jimny for the first time along Wellingtons South Coast/Red Rocks, Not sure if this is the correct place for this post.
A video of track with hopefully the more interesting parts.
A few pictures
I am very surprised how it went over Devils Gate, the Terrano with 30" tyres struggled to get over but with only 205/70r15 Highway tyres it got over relatively easy except for me stalling, going from an Auto to a Manual

Cool.
A good driver should be able to get a Honda CRV over that rock without much fuss, theres 3 possible lines. I recently saw a Terios get over it!
I do find RR a bit tame unless its 3am and raining heavy.

Nice pics and vid. Great seeing people out there. Don't let hero's in their modded out Nissans put you off mate.
Re: My Stock Jimny at Red Rocks
Wow, passive-aggressive! Wasnt tryng to put anyone off anything..
Mines not modded out. Modded out would be solid front and long arm rear.
Mines just a dirty old Terry with factory Inferior Front Suspension and a couple of bolt ons

Re: My Stock Jimny at Red Rocks
haha, yea the first time I got the old Terrano over Devils Gate, on the way back I saw a a 5 door Rav4 make it over, that was definitely an eye opener and put it into perspective.
I would agree that a good driver would be able to cruise over easily but I am not a good off road driver yet. In the Terrano I just make put the pedal to the metal till i worked out that just breaks stuff.
As Cam said I am looking at tyres and then hopefully do Zuki Central at Easter time and maybe some other CCVC tag alongs to get used to the Jimny.
Red rocks is probably the only track I know of around Welly that I would do by myself.
Cam 215/75r15 Hanook RT03's , I will need to start saving.
lax2wlg I have found that taking the left line is the easiest but I am curious about how the other two you are talking about?

I go wide both ways on devils gate. haven't been over in a while though so it may have changed. idle over piece of piss.
have seen a fairly well tweaked safari have about 4 goes before them finally getting over before. It's all technique.
Lol, rt03s are lush. doesn't help me much coz we don't do them hah.
try some of these.

Watching the video it was good to see how courteous you were to other users out there too mate, waiting for walkers to stop or cross first etc, helps to keep 4wding in the not so bad books for a change.
cheers

Yea, though I drive through the valley of death (and it's mudbogs), I shall fear no trail;for tho art modified is my rig, and thy lift kit and lockers they comfort me. Amen

Yea, I was not in a rush and all that, also it is such a good track close to town that it would be said to see it be closed off.
Most drivers out there I saw were the same on the day. But as always it only takes a few bad eggs to ruin it. I can't do anything about them just got to look at how I treat others out there.
I am going to be going out there again on Saturday with a mate from Chch so may see some of you out there, if you spot me stop and say hi.
