New to jeeps, Buying a secondhand TJ Any advice

Postby mach1 » Sat Sep 07, 2013 11:14 am

I am looking at buying a second hand TJ. Looking and spending 10-12k probably 120k - 200km on the clock.
Want something to drive on weekends for a while (over summer ) and then over time build up into a more capable off road jeep.
Any thing that I need to be aware of or look for with second hand jeeps?
Not sure about Autos as have always had manuals.
Soft top or hard top?

Hi, join http://www.wranglerforum.com and learn...
Once you start you never stop modifying. They are very thirsty!! But it's smiles per mile not litres per mile that really matter aye.
Good luck and welcome to Jeep.

Cool... another Jeeper... :)
we get to watch your build thread...

I was where you are now, with a stock TJ, 18 months ago.

I got mine as replacement for my Terrano, with the intention of also going places in it... and it does... just not as a tourier...

I can testify to the truth in Coljags statement "once you start, you cant stop".

However, with all the pro's and thirsty con's, i believe 100% i made the right choice with a jeep.

So much so, i'm quite seriously looking at a grand as my daily... :)

Go hard, and keep us posted as things progress...

I like mine in auto and definately like the soft top over summer. There are so many options for upgrades and many online companies dedicated only to aftermarket jeep parts. Getting them here is a different story tho. If I had my time again tho I think I would buy an XJ as they have the same range of aftermarket parts available but so many more wreckers have dead XJ's lying around down here than TJ's. That being said TJ's look cooler. My 2c.
