Failed WOF

Postby crossbow » Sat Mar 05, 2016 9:17 am

Hi guys,

This is probably my first post. Just went to the WOF shop and failed on RHS ball joints.

Does anyone have a ball joint press I could borrow for a fee? Or any tips about how to get them out? Everyone in the US reckons the only way is with a press but the presses over here are pretty cost prohibitive. Would be great if someone could help me out.

Probably should say that I have an XJ

Cheers

I have done a few vehicles that required a press without using a press.

Cut the base of the joint with an angle grinder and hammer the pin and ball thru. Then use an angle grinder to cut a wedge out of the joint outer.

Only issue I would have is putting new ones in without damaging the inner knuckle or the ball joints. Ive heard of people chucking ball joints in the freezer etc but everyone insists they need to be pressed in at the right angle.
