Jeep US vs Jeep Japan

Postby frederic26 » Mon Apr 18, 2016 1:04 pm

Hi,

Looking at the Rubicon, I got to learn that some are coming from Japan (storage that NZ takes) when the regular orders are coming from US.

I was wondering what will be the possible differences.

Thanks.

Get a build sheet for NZ direct and NZ via Japan Rubicons. That will show you exactly what is different in each as they left the factory. One of the things that might be different is that some destinations do not necessarily get 4.10 diff ratios in Rubicons. Aus/NZ, do. It's now optional even in US. So check what you are ordering, and getting.

If you ever wondered what did your Jeep left the factory with, just get your build sheet from Jeep instantly:

https://jeep.custhelp.com/app/jeep/eqlisting_detail

Enter your 17 character VIN to view and print your vehicle equipment sheet, which contains the standard and optional equipment when the vehicle was built.

Yeah im in an older 3.8 Rubicon 4 door running 4.10's and 285/70/17's - Im definately going up to either 4.88'S OR 5.13's so Id be looking to get the highest ratio you can from factory. Even newer stock JKUR's are not geared correctly IMO.

Sorry but seems to be a real mess to find a real rubicon that matches with what official jeep is listing as equipements... for sure, u need to investigate as some new cars are badged as 'rubicon' and they are only sport... and when they didnt sleep for years in Sing... but still with a 2016 build year...

Checking the VIN gives an idea but even there u can see how easy they changes some elements before to sell these cars...

I suppose it will be the same (or better or worst) with a direct import from Japan..

Jeep NZ is apparently restricted in what they can import (rubicon as an additional pack at 5k) from US. Dont see why they can't get the special editions..

A dealer selling a Rubicon new cannot take things off once it's left the factory. If they sell a Rubicon with badges, but VIN doesn't confirm it to be so = fraud and false advertising.

Don't compare the new 3.6l with new/different auto transmission with 3.8l with old auto. They are completely different things. 3.8l engine was anaemic to start with, plus that auto transmission was wrongly geared to be useful.

New transmission has no overdrive button. Much better geared deep low. Also, 3.6l is 210kW, nearly a third more power.

What city are you in and what dealers are you talking to? They seem to be confused themselves.

In US convention, Model Year is different than Registration Year. Model Year is in the VIN, hard coded from the factory as to what year and specs it was built for. A 2014 MY registered for the first time globally in NZ in 2016 is still a 2014 model.

US model year runs are from 1 Oct to 30 Sept typically. But the production date could be earlier than that in the year (normally starting from June onwards). They have to make it, ship it out and have it on dealer floor by 1 Oct..... Logical.

You can always build a Jeep to your specs and colors, but the wait would be 4-6 months. As it would be built specially for you.

My JKR was built in 2011 late as MY 2012. Sold and registered in NZ in early 2012. Build Sheet clearly shows it was for export market destination AU/NZ. After leaving Ohio plant, it landed in Auckland. Not stored anywhere.

If you really really want a model year 2016 Jeep, make sure the VIN confirms it to be so. Nothing else matters.

I did that with my Cherokee Trailhawk last year. I wanted a MY 2015 and the one we got was verified as such by VIN. MY 2015, made for NZ specs. Dealer was more than happy to work with me on this to get the sale.

I only want to believe you but not sure of it has to do with the branch's 'philosophy' or something else because i can't have such confirmation.

I also bought a GC that I am selling now and also there, there was small surprises at the end with what had been promised when I ordered it and what has been delivered. It sounds like the dealers don't have all the time the clear info from jeep nz or the other way..

Time to deal with a different dealer... If they are not happy to give you VIN confirmation before, how much fun would they be to deal with if there is a warranty claim..

You are paying them good money, they are not giving you something for free.
