Itll slow them down with no steering wheel... a cheap option.

Anyone know if these are legal for road use? Need to be certified?

So I'm thinking of going down the alarm root the guy in Wellington sounds like the man to see every one in the business rates him as one of the top installers in nz. Now I have talked to him and he said he would come down one week and do us a deal if their was enough interest. Some of his alarms come with guarantees that if your truck are stolen he will pay for your excess and give you a hire car for an month what you chch guys recon

highly recommend his work and products .... :D he took his time and did it properly, he is able to customise the install to suit your needs. I got him to add a couple of power feeds for radios etc and a lights on buzzer as well.

unlike the monkeys that did the install on the other shiny , price was the same as this crappy 5 star installer did. never going near streetsoundz again.

I even got some special remotes (not avaliable for nissans etc  )

Had a demo of his tracker system, one of the features is that it will call you if the alarm is not activated and is moved more than 500m (ie your vehicle is towed). If the alarm is activated it will ring and txt you. had a look at the unit and its small enough to hide in your truck somewhere.

Steer clear of AVS and Dynatron, go for the european spec ones, these are rated much higher.

Had a good chat to him, he is happy to do bulk deals for clubs around NZ.

Alarms etc are not the solution but a part of it, look at where tou park your truck(s), how easily can it be towed, how can you make this more difficult, is your ins policy up to date. is your garage etc secure enough.

I've worked in vehicle security so I've seen/heard a few crazy things... including cars being driven off with 2 sets of vice-grips on the steering spline. Just saying :)

I know its irony, but cannot afford it at the mo and really the 4wd isnt modded enuf yet to justify it. Usual story, need to sell "old" ute to finance the "new" (older by 14yrs) one.
GPS hooked up to alarm sounds brilliant. You can inform the boys n blue your sitting outside the address and they have 10 min to turn up before you knock on the door or hopefully you get to find it down a river before it gets stripped and burnt out. Sitting round waiting for a call to inform you your cars been recovered sucks the fat one, and you know its been give death by right foot by the time you get it back.
So yes, but in around 6mths.

On a side note to this. It seems impossible to get third party with fire and theft if you have a modified vehicle. Tried to go through State and the max mods/vehicle market value is 15%; NAC don't even do third party fire and theft (who i'm currently with). Full insurance is ridiculous, something like $977 a year! Anyone else know of a company who is good for modified third party fire and theft?

CLIC - a division of AMI. They insure my variously modified vehicles, 3rd party + fire + theft is an option, just pricey.

I was quoted 15%. The only thing that pissed me off was that I was quoted through state and was all ready to set up the policy and I said, hold on I'll cancel my old policy and call you back. Did that and then, after all the quoting etc, the lady finally asked me if I had any modifications... And to top it off, she then said "can I put you through to our sister company NAC". Thanks for the ideas

91 Nissen Safari stolen back in January from mitre10 Hornby was recovered 3 weeks later in a side street in Hornby hadn't traveled far and had been sitting there for most of that time. The dirt bags must live/work in the area flogged his 35's tools radios and radiator new truck is now equiped with a GPS tracking so should be interesting if that one goes misssing. See my other post for details Cheers wayne

i caught 2 guys trying to pinch my bog standard surf few weeks ago.
thought they would come back so i positioned my pig sticking knife wedged from the floor to the underside of the drivers seat.
sure enough later on the very same night a heard a thud and a very painful scream, closely followed by a car taking off.
jumped in my truck and drove down to hospital and sure enough found the maggot there with blood dripping from his jeans, he is now serving 8 months home detention because his house got searched and they found stolen goods.

in hindsight it prob wasnt the smartest way to deal with it, but hey, you earn the money to have toys and you dont want some maggot taking it from you.

you probably got a hole in the seat, but would be worth every single stitch at the upholsters,
very temping to set something similar up, but one would need to have a good memory not to suffer the same fate!!

haha yeah would be a big surprise if you were hungover. my seat was worn on the edges so needs replaced anyway.

i would sacrifice a seat to get him off the streets anyday.
who knows how many people still have their vehicles because he isnt out and about.

oh and the police werent very happy at all, i almost got charged. but for some reason he wasnt too keen to give a statement
