Rick told me today that a 80 series was stolen only a couple of blocks away from home. So I'm taking the plunge and going to get the, "VLD 2000 Locate" by "Tait Communication" installed asap.
I'll let you know how it goes..

To those that have lost their trucks, I feel gutted for you. I couldn't bare the thought of mine going missing. So any deterrent is better than none.

I have one. I bought something similar to what you find here (and I did indeed purchase it from Ali Express):

http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale?Sea ... 0813234712

Prices vary but they're all about $55USD.

It was pretty easy to install. I feel a hell of a lot better about leaving my ride at home or around the place with that in it.

The one I got didn't exactly match the pictures but turned out to be better than expected. Also hooks into your existing alarms system to notify you if it goes off. It's basically a cellphone in a steel case with GPS and text/data ability in that it also includes a battery that will run for a day or so. Features remote relay cut-off, microphone, movement alert, alarm activation alert, tracking, can generate either google maps links to itself or send you the latitude/longitude, as well as its current battery state and travelling speed.

I'm happy to comment more about it if anyone's interested.

yes been keen to get for my vehicle, as insurance doesn't cover its real value.
Can the unit immobilise (cut ignition)?
or simply sends data once door or ACC is activated?

It can cut anything electrical you please, just wire in a relay and you have a imobliser.

I'm bringing a few of these in, can also supply tracking setups via the net if needed. PM me if anyone requires more deets.

You can do a simple hook up with two wires (+ & -) right up to a full install, to tell you if doors are open, acc is on or off, power removed, fuel cut off remotly etc etc.

Or to your horn, so you can activate it remotely when you go looking for your stolen ride with the police.. EG:
