1st - 2nd Sept 2012
a bit early but its closer to next weekend than last weekend so a new thread it is. Pulled the truck out of the shed to make sure it still goes before heading over to costa for the weekend, the batterys pretty poked so maybe time for a new one, gave it a bit of a grease and bled the brakes to get the air out of the rear callipers. Freespool on the winch has never really worked properly since I've had the truck so I pulled the hub off the end of the winch and it all looked fine so I looked a bit deeper into it and the drum has seized onto the shaft so rather than piss about trying to free that up when theres a pile of other shit that needs my time I dug out the spare winch and started throwing that on and will look at the old one when I've got some spare time
stuck the spare winch on but the stoopid fawking thing didnt line up properly and was all twisted up trying the get the bolts in the holes and I've had it in and out a few times and its always lined up easily so a bit of a closer inspection revealed the end cap on the spare winch is off a MK not a GQ and is about 15mm longer and the mounting holes dont line up the same so I stuck the GQ end back on and still ended up having to elongate the holes slightly to stop the winch racking and tightening the drum up when I tightened all the bolts up

pulled the 200 year old optima out of the truck and stuck it in my flatdeck and theres nothing wrong with the battery starter motors a brand new reduction starter I stuck in a few months back when I started having problems so it might be a HT lead or isolation switch problem... one of tomorrows jobs now
Re: 1st - 2nd Sept 2012
re fitted the starter that I had to get rebuilt today in the Suzuki. new bearings, brushes, a good clean and grease and even a lick of paint. works mint now.
Main problem was it was so gunked up it could not slide to activate starter.

Re: 1st - 2nd Sept 2012
dug out the pile of old starters and out of 6-7 the oldest grubbiest looking one seemed to work the best so I pulled out the brand new reduction starter that only lasted a few weeks and isnt under warenty anymore coz I've owned it for about 4 years and never used it so I've got a truck that starts properly now and my optima battery isnt farked after all had to take the trailer I borrowed to get to costa in for a wof coz it turned out it didnt have a wof after I was told it did so I had to go to repco and buy a pile of shit to fix it and pull half the lights apart to get them working and repair the broken safety chain, tighten the wheel bearings, fix the ramp that nearly fell off etc, had to stop off at vtnz to get it checked coz I was on the fly and didnt have any time and the joker wouldnt take it through with my little pot licker dog sitting in the passenger seat of the car coz he said its policy so I found a piece of string to tie him up and took him into the waiting room where He did everything bar piss all over the place, he jumped up all over everyone he saw, clawed away at the counter trying to jump up on it, tried knocking the pot plant over, knocked all the magazines off the table and was a general nusicence but that was fine with their policy he just couldnt be sitting quietly in the car.... go figure
Re: 1st - 2nd Sept 2012
Well I have started a bit early....
Cut all the extra bits off my intercooler radiator....and its ready for my bro to weld on the new tubes...
Intercooler part has had one plenum cut off so it can be reversed.. Bro to weld that one up too...
Gave the GT4 intercooler water pump a birthday, commutator was very worn so it got machined up again and replaced the brushes.....And worked out where I am going to put it.
Also added a hand throttle which I will finish today (Start a new thread)
Had to fix the gas flap pull handle.... plastic broken so made a new one from some bolts
Beads added to wheels after having them check balanced to see how much I needed to add (Thanks Warren 4wdbits)
So I might have a rest this weekend its all done

Picked up new rims (thanks Warren 4wd Bits). Tomorrow's mission to find a shop that can swap the tyres over to new rims.
Also picked up synthetic rope to rid myself of wire rope on the winch.
Starting to research which tyres to get in a month or so.
Anybody need relatively usable wire rope or 5 Jeep alloys painted black.

Re: 1st - 2nd Sept 2012
Started thinking about sticking a turbo on the Lada
My dad's old Fuego Turbo has a suitable turbo setup, handy that it's for a 1.6 engine, and that the Lada engine is low compression...
All seems so perfect
Oh, and I'm on holiday for the next two weeks, so I can do a fair bit of work (weather permitting), so hopefully I can order the master cylinders etc soon
