Been helping my Bro....He recently purchased a Rav 4.... and was having difficulties finding a clunk....
So he's been over and borrowed some gear.. While he was here we threw it up on some ramps.... And big bro found his clunk... Loose sway bar.
The thing that stinks is it went for a WOF last week... And they were specifically asked to look for this mysterious clunk.... and never did find it...
It stuck out like dogs balls... Took me less than 30 secs to find it. That tell tale ring of slight rust around the loose bolt gave it away....Gave it a wiggle.... loose as.... Two turns with a spanner and all done...
He would have found it himself later today when he threw it up on his own ramps.....Hmmmmmmmmm

Wasn't quite the weekend. But replaced the front diff in the vitara. 2 diffs made one good one.

Then yesterday afternoon helped to try and pull a jeep motor out.

Also helped out with the jeep motor situation, well actually I was nominated site supervisor

I did go back and help this morning then we towed it to scrap metal, there was no greater satisfaction than seeing the claws of death puncture its way through the roof like it was paper then throw it down and crush it

It was just a shell, no diffs, interior, motor or doors and the lard ass thing weighed in at 650kgs

had to work this morning, but headed into Rallywoods after that, found nobody there so we drove around a bit.

My partner got to drive her new 80 offroad, we tested the factory winch hauling a Nissan uphill out of a bog and it is awesome and quick for a factory winch

Also took an ex Pajero owner for a drive in my 80 and have converted him

theres another day tomorrow but I believe my work here is done

must go to tardme and find the pajero owner a new 80

I went to the night run at Woodhill too. Helped organize it and ran the event also. Left camera at home so no action Pics. Final truck count was, 58 including 4 patrol members. Everyone got out of the forest by midnight so Roger was happy. i went and lead CRAZYBUSTARD around the park for his first time. Did most of the harder tracks. Had most fun in track 21. Minimal damage, just an inner cv getting real noisy. Woke up this morning to find my clean truck an't so clean anymore

Many Thanks to those that turned out and made it a great event. My thanks go to the Norwest crew for their help and the most thanks go to the Woodhill Jeep Park of hosting us.

Cheers,
I keep looking for the loose nut behind the wheel, but I can't find it!!

Well I took the rear bar off the Lada, in preparation to get some holes drilled in it so I can actually mount it

Anybody in Auckland have a rather large drill that they could use to attack it with?

And in unrealted news, I almost got killed a few times going for a run yesterday

After years of beating the truck to death ,its time for repairs and mods .So 22 slotting disks later front guards radiator support panel, inner guards are gone along with all the pto winch mounts from the rear ,am going to rear mount radiator and shorten up the front, and fit a different type of main winch .

Went to the night run last night,
It was awesome. I'll be there next time for sure!!

Only damage is a bent bash plate and bent a rim in the last 500m..
Bashed the rim back into shape already

A few photos to come.

Got motivated by the pics of guttix's 300tdi Defender and decided to have another go at getting Dad's old Discovery running. It has sat in the garage partway through a timing belt change for about the past 5 years. I had a look through some helpful threads on aulro.com and worked out when we last had a go at it 6 months ago that we had the injector sprocket misaligned.

Now sorted it and have a running 300tdi Discovery. Yes that is dust on the bonnet.

Now to try and get a WOF on it...

nstacey - nice work, tidy looking disco (and another in the background...). Does your 300tdi have the changed idler/tensioner/crank pulley? Apparently heaps of problems with them in the late 90's...Rover put out some new parts, and the tensioner changed to one without a lip...and the crank pulley got a lip to hold the belt. Mine hadn't been done...so when I got my parts things got confusing...but sussed now

spent the afternoon swearing and cursing replacing the idler arm.
150psi on the good rattle gun and it only just managed to get the bolts undone.
had to use wedge and sledge hammer on the other end.

and on the way home the navara warning light comes on and it coughs its way home :(

guttix, yeah it still has the original tensioner design (although a new part) and the original crank sprocket. I was of the understanding that the ones that were going to fail would have by now. This one is a 1994 with 215km on it.

Unless you so for the revised kit the cambelt will wander and wear on the sides meaning you will either suffer failure or be replacing it again sooner than you think. The belt has been known to wear through the front cover and thats expensive to replace. Complete combelt kits with new pulley and tensioners etc are available at such reasonable prices that its foolish not to upgrade.

yeah for the money I'd get the new setup...rather that than the belt going, and you're up for new pushrods/valves etc
