Only one of the trucks was broken, and even then it wasn't terminal, just a broken mount or two...

I can only comment on the red one... because after months of faffing about I finally got her done... and took her on her maiden voyage. All was going swimmingly, well... moderately swimmingly anyhow... I choose to ignore horrendously rich tune (2smoke anyone?) and the fact that she wouldn't run sans choke... but all in all progress was dandy, up hills, down dales, through holes, over stumps... stupendous, look at that, TWO ladas functional on ONE day!!!

For approximately 23 minutes... after that a horrendous knocking noise surfaced... well, a knocking, grinding, shuddering "I'm not really happy about movement anymore" noise :/

Turns out quite a few bits of the driveline decided to stop being pals... this lead to some "unpleasantness" such as:

Which lead to this:

and then this:

And finally thanks to all you good bastards who towed/gave rides/parts/opened gates/leant trailers and generally saved my bacon I managed to get her home safe and sound on a trailer then deal with grindingclunkingbangingdoonkdoonkscreeeetch type noises till I managed to manhandle the b*tch into the driveway at home...

... where I will attempt repairs faster than the previous lot... aka less than a year or so :D

But honestly thanks all, you know who you are and you are fracking amazing!! :D

Hah, those lil lada's get pretty good flex for a small low truck!
Well after last weekends marathon effort removing carby parts, fitting up efi parts, and wiring, and getting stuck when the fuel pump wouldnt fit in the tank, I think it might be a quiet one this weekend as I am still in search of a pump that fits, and waiting on a little water outlet gasket that toyota charged me $19 for because noone else stocked one or the correct thickness gasket paper. Maybe tidy up the last of the wiring up and at least power the system up n see if she turns over.

Went up to woodhill today, was a bloody good day. Safari didnt miss a beat, and my new springs are magic 8) highly recommend Dobi 2" lifted springs. Very nice on the road and soft enough to flex up real nice offroad.

Was good to see the ladas out, shame about the diff situations

called into mates today and did another tweak to the diesel lift pump setup. ran another return line from fuel reg to lift pump inlet. just to reduce the flow going through the pre filter and to reduce the risk of pressuring the IP via the IP return line. the stock 1/4" return line is a bit small for a 72gph pump.

helped mate get his radio going in the RR.
then pulled the gearbox/diff out of his ride on lawn mower! bloody thing had broken the chassis at the diff mounting points, which cause it to shear the gearbox bolt, which caused the "uni" to jam stopping it from going anywhere.
drilled out the broken bolt, made a couple of sandwich plates to strengthen the broken chassis and replace diff mounting points. reassemble and test run.

so 1 hour work on 4x4, 6 hours work on the darn 2wd lawnmower !
at least he shouted food and beer.

Both were meant to be 33x12.5r15

Well, so far I have finished assembling the hub/cv on the lada, and now started bleeding the brakes. Finally got them working after trying unsuccessfully on my own.

Also got the guard edges sorted and even a radio. All things are looking bright :D 8)

ball joints are a shit at the best of times mate. Ive found putting some good levarage on the joint while giving it a good solid hit in the right direction can help. otherwise get a ball goint seperator or fork. keep at it youll get em.

its as hard as you want to make it.

where the pic was taken just behind my Nissan it splits into two bits and joined back up around 20m up more,
one side was dry as and we decided to take the harder option.
Jordan took the easy way around to get in front to tow me out then to show off went through it all with no issues
might need to get me some bigger tires and do something about my open diffs although the clutch was the main issue
