September 24th 25th

started to check the safari out WOF Wensday weee,
James attacked the 40 to replace broken cv bit of damage to the lands in side the hub from broken bits , found a stray washer type thing in the axle shaft of the diff doesn't come through hub side didn't get there that way , so diff head out tomorrow see what it is

We be figured out it's a bush/spacer. Any clue which way it goes up. I've found the other one flooring in the botten of the diff housing as well.

What year FJ40 ? i can get access to the online manuals with pics....
So far there is nothing like that in the front diff...But I am looking at 1970....
Looks like an oil slinger or backup to a seal...

Yeah its not in any of my manuals either. It's an 1984. They go in behind the inner oils seal. They have to be installed through the hole for the diff. the short sides easy enough to get back in the long sides a bit more interesting.

Installed a Headunit and UHF radio in the 80 series today.
What a mission that was! Found out that it has the factory amp in it which meant a lot of googling to figure out how to get around it as 1 pair of wires controlled all the speakers.
Got it all fitted up inside the double din slots with a little bit of trimming.

Spent a great weekend wheeling down the coast with a group of old mate s and now some new ones. On Saturday we did Cockeye Creek and German Gully. We went up Cockeye and down German. Its been a few years since I was through them and they have changed a bit. Really enjoyed driving them both , Cockeye was like a new track for me in places and German Gully was pretty over grown and I found it a very enjoyable trip although the Safari's paint is now very scratched.
This morning we went and played up on some of the tracks at the start of Big River, a bit of rain West Coast mud and clay its always good 8)
Fantastic time all up, it has also helped me to decide that a quarter panel chop is going to happen very soon as I gave one a little more than a friendly rub :lol:

Pretty sure you will find it's an oil baffle that lives in the axle tube.

How it made it past the inner axle seal into the swivel housing beats me.

we found that one behind the axle seal laying on its side the other was in the diff pumpkin :D

its not uncommon to find them floating around they get knocked loose when people jam the axles back down the housings :D

yes but not noted in the service books , if you don't know they are there , you don't know :D
