Old story I guess. You get what you pay for.
I just wonder how long it is before these things actually become good, for the money you pay.

I recon China will take over the world in our life time.
(opps, sorry for the thread jack)

Let's be honest though what percentage of cars in NZ would get a better rating? Maybe in countries with heaps of new cars it would be different but in NZ where there are so many old imports it would still be one of the safest cars on the road.
All they have done is buy old moulds off other car companies and made them slightly better with a couple of improvements.
I'm very tempted to get myself a new X240 which to me looks a hell of a lot like the old challengers which i like the look of and get new car warranty and all the other good bits that come with a new car.

I see a shite load of them being bought for work wagons. I guess for the coin you lay out you get a good wagon. Beats paying 60G's for a lux or other marque. It's good financial sense I guess. I see lots of swifts being run a s company cars so maybe this is the working fleet version of that.

I agree with their safety ratings being low but probably half of the cars on the road are worse. Just wait till next year as these canny buggeres will watch, learn and improve their model. Look at what Kia and hyundai are doing now, not quite the dogs they started out as.

They may appear to be good value now, but what will resale be like? Sure at $20k the max you can loose is $20k which stacks up good, but from a company point of view, if you are looking at the new car range it is because it is because it is good way to use up pre taxed earnings and there are very good tax write downs to be had. These are worked out as percentages of the capital expenditure (price of ute), and the more you spend, the more write downs you achieve, and then continue to achieve in depreciation every year. And with the depreciating cost, it doesn't take long before book value is less than market value.

But from a private buyers point of view, they probably represent good buying, although waiting a year or 2 would be better in my opinion. Then buy a 2 year old one, that will be very good value.
