Window tints

Postby Heath » Thu Sep 16, 2010 2:29 pm

Just got the windows done in my SWB prado (just over $300). Have as dark as I can go legally (35% in the front drivers/pass windows and 5% in the rear windows) and pretty happy with the results. Got to wait until it all dries out properly (installed with detergent and "stuff")before I give a full thumbs up but so far I'm happy. I guess long term time will tell.

I went with Tint majic (now Solar film company i believe) as they are a nationaly available product and with me locating I didnt want to get left high and dry if I have an issue in the future.

They have heaps of guff in there about the SPF rating and the temperature within the car as the film reflects light (which creates heat in the vehicle)so you dont need air con on as much and saves gas. Good for littlies in the car, dont need blinds or shades as its all done. Just the front to worry about with sunburn now.

Took about 1.5 hours to do so quick and efficient.

Funny thing is 4wds/comercial vehicles can get the darker tints but cars cant. Funny that because we have a transefer case we get treated different to a car. :?

Interior shot shows that although the rear is dark from the outside it is still quite easy to see through.

So the prado's dark and cool now.

Thats a pretty sweet price. I got quoted near $700 to get them done here in Dunedin!

I don't believe its the fact its 4wd that means tints can be darker, it's the height of the vehicle (which includes vans, 4wd type vehicles and commercials). I think they figure that most people can't see through to the front of the vehicle anyway so the level of tint isn't as important as a sedan where someone sitting would be able to see through the vehicle.

On the tinting subject.. does anyone know if Mobis tints are back up and running again? I tried to get some tints cut back in april, but had my money refunded and said they wouldn't be back in business until September. Havent heard back from them though.

I got the same, mates rates $200

Its cooler with the rear passenger window's up than down in summer :D

One problem is I got the rear windscreen done %5 too, and backing at night is a bit tricky... even with my 50W reverse spotlight.
