Dishonest Trade-Me vendors

Postby muddymatt1973 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 8:34 pm

Dishonest Trade-Me vendors

This was a $1 reserve auction that the dealer or his mate pushed up the price so much that his mate "won"

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =745452666

Surprise the sale didn't complete and now it's re-listed.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =749149127

Vendor is Cash 4 Cars

Funny - Trade-me just send you an automated response when you complain and nothing seems to happen. So I asked a question on the new listing - something like "Are you going to get another mate to shill bid this auction up too?" and now I get a snotty email from TM telling ME off for asking inappropriate questions! WFT - I think it's a VERY appropriate question.

So I called TM - not on the rip-off $1.99 number but an 0800 one and spoke to them directly. Waste of time. They promise they are looking at it but I taste a Tui - Yeah right.

Tempted to open another TM account and autobid $9000000 on EVERY single one of the cars they have for sale.

Bloody annoying part is - I would actually be willing to buy the bloody car for what I bid last time!

Just part of using TM unfortunately, TM don't care about complaints if it's not someone avoiding their insanely high fees. But unfortunately there isn't really another decent option for buying and selling.

There is a member on here who had their Safari auction removed when TM noticed the sellers brother was bidding on it. Not sure how you prove they know the person, unless historically they have the same person upping the price?

I'm pretty steamed, I asked the following question and he just fobbed me off

People may be interested to know the original buyer had no feedback - a new member with no trades - what a surprise it has been relisted, I think it was one of your mates shill bidding to get the price higher. This is fraud, it is illegal

Hi, thanks for your question. Please contact Trade Me with any concerns you have regarding this auction.

But the next day I recieve this bullshit from 'Evan' at trademe

It has come to our attention that you have made some inappropriate comments in the Question and Answer section on auctions.

We would appreciate your co-operation in using the Question and Answer feature appropriately.

etc etc blah blah blah

I'm surprised how many new members have purchased from him. If you go through his feedback, there are a lot of traders who's only purchase are through him. Wonder if they are more accounts of his, but trying not to be too obvious by relisting?

the more sales he puts through trademe the more they make out of him so of course they'll keep a blind eye to what he's up to so long as there's a buck in it for them

Awesome work guys, I rekon they have a stack of "burner" trade-me accounts to bid from. All zero activity until needed.

I will send all that info and traders names to trade-me directly tomorrow.

Please do keep asking questions but don't get yourselves banned from Trade-Me on my account. 8)

More trademe correspondence, their reply followed by my original message. My prediction - business as usual.

Hey Kyle,

Thanks for getting in touch with us about this.

We take complaints about shill bidding very seriously. I would be happy to go ahead and investigate those memberships for you and take the most appropriate action.

I can't reveal what action we do take however Kyle, as this would be a breach of that members privacy. Please refrain from using the question and answer feature in this manner, this isn't it's purpose. We would ask that you please be aware that further use of the feature in this manner may result in your privileges being revoked.

In future, we would advise that if you see something like this on the site you use the 'Community Watch' feature. This is at the bottom of each listing and will say 'Report this listing'. This link sends a complaint through to our site security team.

Just shout out if you need any more help or have any questions. If you would prefer to have a chat with one of the team, just call through on 0900 872 33. Just bear in mind calls cost $1.99 + GST per minute, but you are most welcome to flick us an email whenever you wish for no charge.

Have a great evening Kyle.

Cheers,

Matt

Our conversation so far:

I recently called out a trader for shill bidding. Shortly after I received an email from trademe accusing me of inappropriate comments in the Q&A section of an auction. This is bullshit, you should be doing something to address the shill bidding, which is fraud, not chastising your law-abiding rule-following members.

The trader, cash4cars, is obviously involved in shill bidding as evidenced below

Listing #: 749172402 bids by "sula_97" with no feedback

Listing #: 748261959 bids by "eatz3" member since December 2012 with no feedback

Listing #: 748784370 bids by "fami2" member since February 2010 with no feedback

Listing #: 749224524 bids by aantony member since August 2013 with no feedback

And of course the original auction that sparked my complaint was won by donkumar69 member since September 2012 with no feedback. The car was then predictably RELISTED

I will continue to pursue this fraudulent behaviour

I got EXACTLY the same automated bullshit response.
I have an 0800 number and 3 04 (Wellington) numbers that I shall be using tomorrow.
I spoke to a Danny at TM this afternoon and he was the same - "we can't discuss any action that we might take" bla bla bla...

The fact the auction is still live indicates the "action" taken is bugger all doesn't it?

Something funny for everyone to note now is the fact that as of today Cash for Cars has placed feedback on "Donkumar69" stating:
"The buyer did not complete the trade due to a lack of funds"

Sounds like the pressure of you questioning the auction is working & he's tryna cover his tracks

I tried buying Prado parts from this trader late last year, all parts they had where from a 2L-te engine, or an LJ Prado.
