Wheel alignment - Tonys Tyre Service WGTN central

Postby CLUMZ1 » Tue Aug 12, 2014 6:31 pm

hi all,

so, had a whoopsy in the hilux (LN106) on the weekend up odlins, tapped a tree, pulled the steering damper out of its mounting hole etc.

steering was way out of alignment (toe) - so i dropped it in to Tonys in Wellington CBD

at 1:17 pm they took it around 2 blocks of the cbd before arriving back at the wheel alignment machine at 1:23.

1:24 to 1:49 they performed the alignment, and didn't drive it again until i picked it up.

I paid them $60 for their service.

the steering still isn't working correctly,

hard lock left stops on the steering stoppers as expected,
hard lock right stops a good 1.5cm from the stoppers on all 3 spots, right and left side swivel hubs and also on the steering box.

any ideas as to what would stop it going full lock right hand down?

I have video of tonys driving it around the block at 1:15, burping, swearing etc if anyone is interested, also have location tracking so i know they didn't perform a post alignment check of any kind.

If you have a factory steering box and a straight drag link with a lift that is your problem ,
We stock the z shape drag links that are length adjustable so you can re centralize your steering box ,
$250 inc gst ,
If it has RUF or isnt lifted than something is bent c arm etc

not lifted bro. don't you think its weird that it went lock to lock fine before i hit a tree, now it doesnt. I got under it and had a look, doesn't seem to be contacting anything and certainly not stopping on any of the stoppers as described above.

If you only pay $60 you'll get SFA done.... better to go somewhere where the staff know what they are doing....

Twisted spline on steering box

If you decide to bring it to the experts with many many years of experience instead of taking it to young boys with sod all training or any common sense , then please make sure my loaner wheel comes back with it ;-) ;-)

Old man skid did a mint job on the alignment on my commodore and she goes like a cut cat bro!

Take it to Skid. We always go out of our way to take everything to him and Rob in the UH, I cannot recommend them enough! Do it once... do it right...

I had an alignment done by Tonys in Chch just before I came back up north. They put one of the tie rod clamps on upside down and was hitting the radius arm anywhere past half lock left hand down. It could be a similar thing on your truck??
I took it into another branch to get it repaired under warranty and at first they tried to say id damaged it. Eventually they did get it repaired.
Again it would have been picked up if theyd taken it for a test drive.
