Intercooler, EGT & Boost Gauge, 2.5 exhaust in AKL?

Postby crazydragon » Sun Mar 15, 2015 8:57 pm

Anyone did these mods in Auckland area?

Kaiapoi Repowers quoted me $4000 to do intercooler, EGT & Boost Gauge and Electronic boost cut and 2.5 free flow exhaust system on a 1KZ Prado. It's a good price but not sure I'm up for driving all the way down there.

Any recommendations? Or is it worth driving all the way down to Kaiapoi Repowers to do it?

How many outfits have you phoned?

Exhaust $1000?
Intercooler ??? Cheap if you find a stuffed 1kz from a Prado with factory intercooler..

Gauges??? Couple $100???

So far I only know Kaiapoi repowers who do them. I'm not very knowledgeable in DIY stuff so I'll be paying someone to fit them for me.

Sorry I calculated the wrong price in the initial post. $4000 was the rough price including snorkel which I will not be fitting anymore.

Front Mount Intercooler and installation $1250
Auberins EGT Gauge and installation $395
Electronic Boost Cut & Gauge and installation $480
Full 2.5 exhaust system and installation $950
Retune engine $250
Misc Labour $195

Comes up to roughly $3500. But I'll just put my budget to $4000 anyway just in case.

Anyway, price isn't that much of an issue, it's the fact that they are bit too far away. Any recommendations up in Akl that can provide as good service like Kaiapoi Repowers?

Holy hell. I could probably manage it for that price, and just a quick trip up the road, too!

Sorry I don't understand what you mean MiHiT. Do you know anyone in the auckland area that can do what I want?

I just gave MotorTech 4x4 up at Glenfield and they told me that they may only do EGT gauge. They can do top mount intercooler but don't do front mount which is what I prefer. Exhaust was slightly more expensive as well. Asked them if they know anyone else in Akl area that specialises in these kind of work they say they don't know.

Pete Brown at Papakura Mufflers is the guy for exhaust systems.
Long time four-wheeler as well.

Regards doing the other work talk to Richard and the team at Auckland 4x4 (Papakura Auto Electrical).
They have a good work shop and do some good mods (including a Viper engine into Nissan Safari).

And best of all both businesses are only a couple of hundred metres from each other.

No, I meant that I'm in Whangarei and could do most of that at those prices.

Except they've apparently put the price of steel up again!
It looks like Ralfie has you sorted out locally though.

Thanks for the help guys, but I think I've decided to just go with Nathan down at Kaiapoi Repowers as it seems like he's done lots of the same engine and is very experienced.

Do you guys think I'll benefit more from a free flow muffler or just a straight pipe system? I'm going for 2.5inch rather than 3inch. Sound isn't too much of an issue to me if it's all within the legal DB limit. In fact, I like to hear the turbo whine! :D

Have you spoken to anyone else in greater Auckland area, or even Waikato for that matter if you are happy to travel?

I would have thought it would cost another $2,000 to cover fuel, RUC, ferry and accommodation costs to drive down to SI to get work done or nearly that much to transport vehicle down and back.

That just seems plain crazy ......... oh, just realised your username ............
especially when there are businesses up Auckland way that are just as capable of doing the work required.

Hi yes, I did take that into account. But the thing is the vehicle I'm buying is at Wanaka so I will need to dish out all that costs too.

Driving it back straight up to Akl ($700) VS stopping at ChCh ($900) to have all these done is only a difference of 200 bucks. Not that much of a difference. Transport companies quoted me a whopping $1600 from Wanaka straight up to Akl!!

I'm happy for Nathan or Cori to do the work as there are lots of members who speak highly of them.

That's totally different from your original post which asked for businesses in Auckland and even asked if it was worth it to drive all the way down ..........

Hammond boys know there stuff...

Exhaust make sure they do 3inch dump pipe dont know if you asked for that or just exhaust.. Dump pipe makes a difference then go to 2.5 with coby free flow muffler or 3inch with a bigger muffler...

Yeah Cori told me they have custom made dump pipes and that 3inch isn't necessary and can be a tight fit too. Yup it'll be a 2.5 inch system with free flow muffler.

Are you getting manual pump put on? If no then there much point in a boost controller as factory cut out will make it surge

Ways around that by fitting a boost cut. Stops the ecu seeing the "trip" voltage. Tweak fueling and she'll be flying. Had it done to my kzn185 and it boogies :D
