Suspension bushes

Postby Aquasprite » Tue Nov 20, 2007 7:07 am

:D Hi, Some months ago I fitted 2 x Noltec bushes to the left rear radius arm on my '94 Prado to get a WOF.
It has done several trips - Central Otago, including Skippers Canyon, Poulter River, Wiberforce River, Ramsay Glacier, Upper Waimakariri,
Banks Peninsula (Takamatua Stock Track), Goldsborough (Mt Greenland and No Name Road), Lindis Pass/Hawea Flat - and went well until on the Lindis trip, quite suddenly developed a heavy clonking sound underneath.
Shock - Horror - Oh, Shit! Both bolts gone from the axle bushes on the left rear radius rod.
Some old ones in my toolkit were an exact fit, so we got going again with a minimum of sweat.
BUT, what caused two bolts to disappear so suddenly after months and many kilos of on/off roading? I think they broke!
The Noltec bushes are hard - you cannot push you thumb nail into them. nor the handle of a teaspoon, and I think they just sheared off the bolts.
Anyone else had a problem with them?
Cheers,
Aquasprite
