Newbie from Rolleston

Postby Philbo » Sat Sep 06, 2014 10:35 am

Howdy

I am a very new 'newbie'.

My name is Phillip Johnson and I work as a Laser Operator for a local Christchurch Engineering firm and drive a Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed 3.5 V6 LWB.

My 4x4 driving experience is limited but I have completed two Canterbury Safaris organized by the Lions Clubs. Those trips are very popular. Last one in the High country past Lake Sumner and there were 130 trucks (safety in numbers for sure). The funny thing about that trip was that I was one of three Pajero drivers - you guys don't appreciate quality :D .

My family and I are looking to get out and about more frequently and to look through areas that we would normally not visit. I am looking at grades 1&2 that are great for the family and not too hard on the truck. I am keen to learn and to go out in groups with possible over-nighters as time allows.

Will keep an eye on the forums and see what pops up in the Canterbury area.

See you around.

Phil

Hi Phil and welcome.
Maybe check out some of the local 4wd clubs, lots to choose from in Canterbury. I'm a member of the Canterbury Recreational 4wd Club and we do have members in Rolleston also :).
Each club will have its own flavour and focus so always worth checking a couple out.

Thanks for the note.

Over the last couple of days I sent through a request to the Cant Recreational Club for some info. Just waiting to hear back. I came across them via Google search. Sounds like a very good club.

How far afield does the club travel?

CR4WD goes all over SI. Day trips and longer, grades 1-5 :). Just went down Waipara River to Amberely Cliffs today, had 24 trucks on the run :)

Perfect day for it!

Reading through the CR4WD website it mentions the club checking over my truck and explaining procedure etc. Would this mean I would not be able to enjoy the trips until after this has happened?

Perfectly fine if that is the case. Be good to get out and enjoy this great weather.

The next meeting is not too far away.

Gidday Mate,

As the previous guys have said, there are some good clubs in Canterbury and it's really the best way to learn about your vehicle and see some awesome country at the same time, not to mention getting out and about with like minded people.

I'm with the Christchurch club and can send some info if you're interested.

Howdie

Great to hear from you. It would be great if you could send some info through.

Very keen to see more of the countryside and gaining experience with 4wdriving.

Look forward to seeing the info.

Thanks.
