5 Minute Newbie

Postby Eyesplice » Wed Feb 25, 2015 4:01 pm

Hi Guys/Guyess'
Have just joined up and currently driving a 1994 2.7 D21, diesel Terrano (shiny) used as family vehicle and to get to my fishing/hunting/camping spots.
Also used in my role as F&G NZ Ranger to get to a few out of the way places.

I don't know alot about diesels and have found that I have a leaky injector pump.

Q1 - Is there a Seal kit available or does this mean a new pump complete?
Q2 - How difficult is it to repair/replace?
Q3 - Availability? Are they still making parts for 1994 units?
Q4 - Cost $$$ ... What is my best option - Kit/New Pump/ Used/Reconditioned Pump?

All/any recommendations/suggestions gratefully received - I have always worked on the principle that you should never try re-inventing the wheel - It's already been done somewhere. That's why the questions above. If anyone would know - it would be you guys. :)

Thanks
Eyesplice

I bit the bullet late last year and got a full seal kit and new driveshaft in mine for roughly $700 I think it was, thats with me removing and refitting the pump myself, they reckoned to fully recon it would have been upwards of $1200
Might pay to talk your local diesel specialist, not all of them are trying to rip you off

Oh and welcome, heaps of info around here youve come to the right place

Q1, seals available
Q2, depends which seal is leaking, could be very simple (eg loose hose clamp) or may need pump removed
Q3, Easy to get parts through diesel specialist
Q4, Find exact cause of leak. Clean it immaculately clean, find out where leak is from. Don't recondition pump for the sake of 1 o-ring if you're trying to save money.
