Hello and happy holidays .
We are a retired french couple who arrived in NZ one month ago after 6 months spent driving around Australia . We drove our vehicle all the way from Paris....
For thé moment we enjoyed our trip around northern island but we express some frustration not having been able so far to drive off road .
Hopefully next week in your southern island !
Any advice from you off road lovers will be very welcomed .
Hope to hear from you !!??

Welcome :)

In my biased opinion the off roading gets better the further south you go :)

Otago and the West Coast of the South Island both offer a lot of great 4wd tracks. With the right advice and care some of the Canterbury braided river beds are also great 4wd highways that offer a unique NZ off-road experience.

A great start would be to track down a South Island 4wd guide book such as Mark Wilson's 4wd South. Check out bookshops when you arrive or I'm sure I could lend you a copy if you are passing through Christchurch

All the best and drive safe.

Were you in Wellington region last week.

I saw an awesome looking lifted type of euro camper heading over the Haywards Hill, looked pretty wicked if it was you :-)
