Harder to guess with no size reference- spider gears on a diff maybe? There appears to be a HEAP of wear on the shaft thing(technical term)...

I reckon it's engine braking that's caused it to finally go. Having changed to a manual gearbox, my guess is that is now the weakest link.

i would take a guess that its the welding thats weakened it. but the severely worn cross pin shows it was pretty stuffed before the welding. looks like you got your money out of it, time for a locker.

Yea that was the "cheap" part time mod :-) Have done the same again using parts from a spare case.... but

i would assume by welding the spiders connected to the rear output on the center diff driving the rear end leaving the front unattached till the center diff lock and hubs are engaged?? just guessing tho
