diesel pajero long term storage

Postby basics » Sun Dec 18, 2016 7:46 am

so, run me through what i need to do for a diesel that im going to store for about 3 years

im storing it at my place, so i can turn it on and give it a small run every now and again if need be.

i will lift it up on axle stands to prevent tires getting flat spots
ive changed all the fulids so their all fresh

the tank is nearly empty, is it beter to have it full or leave it epmty?

is it worth disconecting the battery? or just give start it up and let it iddle every so often?

anything else you would recommend i do?

cheers

I'm a believer in tank full . As this leaves no air space for condensation to wreck the tank .

I wouldn't plan on the battery being usable for 3 years on top of how ever long it's been in the vehicle already . I'd be removing it from the vehicle and keeping it on a battery minder . Or just use it in something else .

If and when u do run it actually let it get hot till the fan cuts in etc . Heater on . Hopefully the oil can burn some moisture off . Maybe run it through the gears and give the brakes a mash while wheels are spinning so disks don't rust Un evenly

Nothing else off the top of my head .

Lachlan pretty much covered it, but is there a reason you cant just take it for a drive every couple of months?
If it's outside I'd put a cover over it, spray some diesel into all the sills/gutters/arches to fend off rust.

the only reason is its unregisted and un wofed, and im in the middle of tawa, dont want to risk the tickets.

but im sure it will do a few sneaky runs just to keep it all moving
