Sound proofing, opinions/experiences

Postby wjw » Fri Feb 03, 2017 6:42 am

Due to the amount of time I spend in rivers, I took the carpet out of the 80, which of course has made the cabin quite noisy on the road.

Is it worth installing this stuff?

Does it need carpet on top to protect it?

If so, would I be better off buying something like this:

Using marine carpet, or buying mats:

TIA

I looked into this a while ago but shelved it.

There is a 2 pack rubberised paint (at about $100/lt) which is supposed to be the biz.

Marine carpet isn't very sound-absorbent.

Mass is your friend for sound deadening, there is some ashphalt-backed flashing tape available which would be tedious, but effective, the manufacturer may do sheets?

Sorry, I see that first link now. if you weren't painting it on, that stuff looks good.

I went to a place called Pararubber in palmy, they sold me rolls of high density foam for $10 a meter of offcuts. It's about 5mm thick and is pretty decent. Just urathaned it to the surface and she's insulated sound and heat.
