Anyone got a pic of how you set up the EGT probe esp intersted in a 1HD

This shot was taken at 9.30pm tonight, some 5 hrs since the engine was shut off and parked outdoors.
Left = Boost, Centre = EGT and Right = AT Oil temp (not plumed in yet)


Does this look about right?
I would have thought the Oil and EGT would have read a lot lower. I'll check them again in the morning before I go to work.

Outdoor temp is currently 14 deg according to my weather station.

its surprising how long it takes for temps to drop. engines hold the heat for a long time. depending on how hot the bonnet is and how well insulated it is.

This shot is taken at 6:15 am with an outside temp of 12.4 deg.



Now; another question.

What alarm temperature should I set my EGT at? I currently have it at 700deg

The truck will hit this high temp when towing the caravan, if I do not carefully watch what is going on. I have never allowed it to go over this mark.

I have the truck booked in on Monday to get the AT Oil temp probe plumbed into the AT sump, so it will be nice to see what temperatures it is producing under load.

Just a small update on the average readings I have had whilst driving on the highway, with no load.
Boost ~ 6.5 PSI
EGT ~ 360°C
AT Oil Temp ~ 66°C

Over the Easter break I will get readings when under towing load as a comparison.

Hi Pete, sorry for the late reply, setting your EGT alarm to 700deg C is about right as according to my research spiking to 720 is about maximum so the alarm warning at 700 and the time it takes to back off you will be hitting the max spike. I am the preacher of driving on or to the EGT gauge , on normal cruise and it varies all the time depending on head or tail winds even minute changes in gradient , at cruise my VDO analog gauge sits anywhere between 350/450, head wind and slightly uphill = 450/550. Towing = 15ft Zephyr caravan go back to normal cruise situation = 400/500 to 500/550, then put your nose into a head wind or up hill ----- keep a close look at your gauge = 550/700, For long periods eg; through the Lindis or Lewis passes I button off and let the gauge sit around the 600/650 mark, on a few occasions while taking my eye off the ball I have hit the 800 mark (F@#k) . Apart from the head wind or up hill situations I can sit comfortably on the towing speed limit---- well slightly over lets say I can stay with the traffic . Up hill or strong head wind well you have to keep your eye on the rear view mirror. I only use overdrive when i feel it's down hill or tail wind eg; no resistance. Will be watching for your results and for the uneducated or the won't be educated,

Cheers Fitzy, I suspect my other results will be similar to yours when I get to do the test as they were similar with the analogue meters.
EGT's climb real fast when increasing speed with the caravan in tow all right.

I am more concerned with the AT oil temps, I have the alarm set to 130°C from memory. I want to do some towing tests with the TC locked and unlocked to see what the temp differences are.

have you got a aftermarket at cooler? ive got one on my 1kz prado and ive got a stepmaster at oil temp gauge I can drive as hard as I want and it wont warm up at all, only when I have it in overdrive and 4wding or doing hard hills it will climb to a max of 70 usely gets to around 50 if driving hard like that and then if I take it nice again or stop it will drop back to 0 within minutes.

Never use Over drive when 4wding or on any hills ... you have to let it rev a bit. I do 95% of my 4wding in low range ..keeps it nice n cool.

I didn't and my egt gauge is in the pocket below the stereo in my KZ surf. Had about 250mm spare cable. That's from after the turbo and coming through the grommet beside brake booster.

may sound like a dumb q but im thinking of getting a couple of these but regarding the wiring do they need a constant 12v feed and acc conection and shit kinda like your head unit? after hearing you need to program them

This is there latest ... you have 2 gauges in 1 .... so can see both EGT & water temp at once .... got to be good ...easier to mount.

I'm definitely heading towards two of these , egt/boost + trans temp/watertemp and then possibly a third for oil pressure/volts.
Pretty sure the auto sparkie will be happy for half a days work

They just use the acc wire and park light wire to allow for auto dimming. They hold their memory when turned off.
Have a look on the Auber site as there are pdf files to download on all the gauges and how to set them up.

Wire them in yourself, it aint that hard to do and you'll save yourself some coin too

You'll need one for the flux capacitor and time dialling
