So I get a lot of useful info from this site so I thought I'd post today's efforts as it may help someone else in the future. When I say "we" I mostly mean Mudbugga as I just stood around fetching spanners and stuff and tidying up
We ordered the auberins EGT gauge which came as a bundled set with the K type probe and a temp gauge which came with a PT100 sensor. This is on a 1KZTE engine for a Prado 3.0L diesel.
We removed the exhaust manifold, marked and drilled a 7mm hole for cutting a M8x1 thread to match the EGT probe. The heat shield also needs a hole to allow the wire feed out.
For the water sensor probe we found a bung in the head on the intake side. The sensor comes with a 1/8 NPT thread. I took both bung and sensor to a hydraulics shop (Martins) and they sold me an adaptor off the shelf for $5 We were a bit worried the probe didn't stick out far enough into the water flow but it seems to be working ok for now..
Both sensors wires went through the firewall where the heater cable goes.
We installed the gauges into the trinket tray under the stereo. I ordered the enclosure boxes from auberins and they fit real nicely in the trinket tray held in with a piece of double sided tape.
The wiring in was pretty straight forward following the instructions: power,ground,sensor, and a feed from the headlamps which makes the gauges dim when you turn the lights on.
The only bit where we struggled was when we fired them up they were reading crazy numbers. Like 33 Celsius water whilst hot. We scratched our heads a bit until we realised that you needed to program the gauges so they matched the sensor type! Once we worked this out using the "Input Type" setting in the menu we were fine.

Dont forget they arrive from the states in F and need setting to C...

Good looking work. What sort of readings are you getting on the EGT gauge?

Yeah. Managed to change to Celcius. That last photo with the Input Type adjusted to match the sensors shows the readings at tick over , whilst hot.
Have only driven from outside of house to garage so far. Can someone post normal or average readings please? Would be good to compare...

forum member "Zed" has an inter cooled 1KZ surf, and from memory its Auberin EGT was reading low 300 deg C at cruise, and around 800 at full throttle.

Wow! That first pic of the needle position says it all. I knew those gauges were a bit iffy but never realised they were that crap!

kzn130 rebuilt motor, auto trans, inter cooled engine, 35'' tyres, 4.3 ratio diffs, snorkel, roof racks loaded with gear.
12psi boost, fuel spill valve cranked up 1/2 turn.
2.5'' dump pipe, with 2.5 mandrel exhaust, egr removed.
fan clutch modded to engage sooner
tripped around south island in winter
egt cruise 500-525c, max 650-700c. could push up to 800
water temp cruise 87-90c, max 97c (travelling up ski field access road)
autometer gauge moves from 80-97c with the original gauge not moving
water temp was taken from top engine outlet

Took the truck out for a quick 15 minute drive on road with Mudbugga, dragging a boat.
Once warmed up the water temp gauge is reading 88-92C. Stock gauge didn't move a millimetre off just below half way the entire trip.
EGT sits at below 200C on tickover. On cruise it's between 550 and 600. What I was very interested in seeing was how the EGT climbed on acceleration away from stationary (stop signs or lights etc). With the revs climbing the EGTs crept up to high 700s easily. A quick ease off on the right foot brought them back immediately though.
It really makes you adjust you driving style to being less aggressive on the accelerator and more Grandad-like overall
Looking forward to seeing what happens offroad now.

Just a quick update. Went for a bit of a drive today...
Without towing anything and on a 20 degree day I'm averaging 450-550 on the EGT and 80-84 on the water temp reading whilst cruising at 100 kph.

Went through the molesworth station over new year,
had steady 5 minute hill climb 2nd gear, egts sitting 625-700c. water temp got to 99deg
was 30+ degree day though
cooled down soon as got to the top
