Turbo heat question

Can some one indicate what temp I should get after fitting a pyro gauge to my 98 Landrover Discovery TD300 manual when driving on "normal" country roads (Waikato south type roads) with no super long up hills and say 3 people on board (as a weight reference)at 100? I want to see whats normal versus the max temp when towing a mud truck on a trailer (which I will test this weekend on the Raglan hills). Purpose is to adjust and set the pump/ fuel correctly with in safe limits as previous owner just fiddled and adjusted pump with out skill and didn't use a pyro gauge to measure his "workmanship"..............

I currently barely get 300 deg so might be normal.

you need to say exactly where the probe is installed, as this can cause the base temp to vary by 100 degrees or so.
Basically, is it in the collector just prior to the turbo, or is it in the down pipe, just after the turbo?

Hi, it's 40mm in front of the turbo in the collector. I removed the EGR valve and installed it into the blank off plate.

just make sure egt probe is in the gas flow.
i've had 100c difference due to length of probe.

yer good call, it just sticks in the flow approx. 4/5mm.

i would find a longer one or drill/tap the manifold. it really does need to be in the center of the flow.

Yr, good point. It was the easier way out for me at the time fitting it as I didn't want to go buy a tap for a one off hole so just took the plate in. As I have just moved house and so its a bit full on at the moment but will revisit the mounting of it again and maybe drive it to some to do on site and then plug to drive home and refit the probe?
