HILUX LN65 engine options

Postby peter_Kzj78 » Sat Apr 29, 2017 1:58 am

hi folks,
I just recently bought a 1984 LN65 Hilux double cab.
it was too sweet a deal to not buy it but now I don´t know what to do...I have my KZJ78 which is a never to be finished project and steady consumer of my money and other resources.
the Hilux has the 2L engine and I was wondering which options there are for a swap (mainly 4 cylinder diesels) which don´t require a lot of changes on the gear box etc.
ideas welcome :-)
I was wondering if buying/parting a Surf 130 would be a good fit?

cheers
peter

Obvious choice would be a 3 or 5l with turbo and intercooler
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

3L is rather easy to get over here. Didn't see a 5L in a cruiser yet. What is the donor for that?

hey guys,

anyone know if a 1PZ engine would fit into the LN65?

I could get one real cheap but since it is a shortened 1HZ I would not thin it is much of a fit here? the seller of course claims it is

The easiest choice by far for most bang for buck is the 5l turbo.

I also have a 2.4 ln65 and a kzn130 and am pretty keen to 1kzte the ln65 as the power is chalk and cheese lol, have seen a few 1kz ln65 conversions so suspect it is relatively easy, just comes down to ease really, drop straight in vs custom mounts.

Sounds good. I like the 1KZ characteristics anyways.
But I'm not sure if I get it road legal with turbo.
Still lot of time to decide. Thank you guys

If your In NZ turbo vs non turbo isn't really an issue when it comes to certification.

ok no idea about local rules over there. but diesal with no turbo feels very sad but I'm sure you will find a solution that works within the rule book. good luck :)

hi guys,
my project came to a sudden halt!
I sold the truck at a good price, saving me some trouble and keeping me focused on my KZJ78
thanks for the help anyways
