Wastegate Creep

Postby tuckertrucker » Wed Nov 01, 2017 6:57 pm

Gidday all
I've had a good search but nothing on this (or others) forum that covers exactly what I'm asking.
I've got a 92 Safari running a GT35 turbo. Nothing, flash. My set up allows around 14psi using a 38mm wastegate. Unregulated the old girl can only reach 20psi.

Currently with the wastegate plumbed in, it begins to creep open at around 5psi. I can still reach the 14psi but not till around 3500rpm. If I take off the pressure line to the wastegate, I can reach higher pressures earlier.

Are there any ways to prevent this creep while maintaining the function of the wastegate to keep the boost capped at 14?

cheers

Read this to do it properly
Also it's worth finding the "part two" of that article on same page

The other option is just use a longer piece of vacuum hose to go to the actuator . Like actually just use a metre of hose and coil it up . See if that makes a noticible difference and it only takes 5 seconds to fit/try . Vl commodore owners do it quite often

The top link is thecnically correct and very diy and tunable for a professional result short of going to an ebc

So in short get a low pressure adjustable relief valve and get a small one way valve .
The relief valve might cost some money . T fittings and hose and a check valve all should cost a few dollars each . Plenty of petrol cars have 5mm check valves for stuff in the vacuum system

simply get a ball and spring boost controller.
eg http://nxsmotorsports.com/
plenty of info around if you want to make your own.

External gate? Or internal.
If it were internal could be actuator preload
problems are only a problem if you not willing to learn how to find solutions
