why not just put a vg30 in it?
easy to find a box that will fit it if yours doesnt.

Re: Advice wanted. v6 commy into 87 navara
is the vg30 a newer nissan motor?? sorry i dont know alot of engine models
Re: Advice wanted. v6 commy into 87 navara
yea the vg30 is what came in the terrano's as a factory option.
you would have the option to get engine mounts to fit easy.
its a 3L v6, definitly fits into the engine bay of a terrano or navara.

awesome. i'll look into that as i am pretty sure the terrano and navara have the same box. i have a spare box in the shed so dont want to change if i dont have to. my current engine overheats, and have rebuilt cooling system and done everything short of dismantling and checking the block for cracks (although tk test always comes up clean)

yea sounds good, just unsure if its the same box for petrol and diesel.
you can pick up a cheap vg30 and if worse things worse you may have to modify your bellhousing.
Is yours a petrol or diesel navara?

its petrol. z20 engine. rather gutless but was working well
Re: Advice wanted. v6 commy into 87 navara
well i would think that the gearboxes arnt too different.
the ratios would be good for it being petrol and all.

Replace the radiator cap - sounds silly I know but that may be the problem. I know of someone else on here that had overheating issues for 12+ months and they finally replaced the cap and it was sorted.

Nice try. But radiator cap is new. New t/stat, new waterpump and fan, new hoses, clean radiator twice, acid washed block, checked timing. Bottom hose collapses under revs when overheating. Only other thing i havent tried is taking exhaust off to check if its partly blocked.

Where are you located?
Collapsing bottom hose would indicate the cooling system is restricted, the waterpump is trying to suck more than it is getting,
Pull the thermostat out, place in a jug of boiling water, make sure it is fully opening the fact its new doesnt mean a lot
How was the radiator cleaned?
Id say It needs to be taken into a radiator shop, have one of the tanks removed and the core properly cleaned, they have brushes and rods to push thru the inside of the cores
Re: Advice wanted. v6 commy into 87 navara
The commy motor is smaller and has lots more power than the vg30. It would be worth the effort to get it in there.

the 3litre v6 navaras and terrano's have a different gearbox than their 4 cylinder brothers. nissan brought out both 4 & 5 speed boxes with serial #F4W71B and F4W71C, FS5W71B and FS5W71C respectively. these fit all 4 cylinder engines, as far as i know. the box you want for the v6 is #FS5R30A. good luck.

Re: Advice wanted. v6 commy into 87 navara
im in wanganui.
got the commy motor last night so it is a go once i get everything needed.
as for cooling system the radiator has been cleaned professionally with the tank off, t/stat tested. plus block cleaned out. therefore must be getting air in system. hose only collapses when overheating. thanks all for the help will post as i gather parts for engine and get it in.
might be a couple of months as need the truck for around town use.
