3RZ to YN65 questions

Postby hunton » Tue Jun 30, 2015 6:11 pm

Hi,
I have a 3RZ engine with clutch and bellhousing to install in my lux.
I have browsed the 3RZ threads but am still unsure of a couple of things about the engine mount mods.
Big Stu used LN mounts and also moved the engine forward 40mm but I couldn't work out what he had done with the gearbox / driveshaft mods assuming that the gbox came forward with the engine. I could have missed it but also don't know if I must do this mod.
Does the engine need to be set lower than the existing 3YE to clear the firewall?
Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
John

Hi ln46 mounts i used as i got them free, should be same as ln65 etc.
gearbox i used two xmembers cut top horizontal section where bolt holes are and the front vertical part down to the horizontal seam.
then cut bit out of good xmember in front centre and two slits up front bolt holes to fit socket then basically take the cut 90 deg piece lay rear two holes over front to holes on xmember and weld up so it spaces the mounting point forward. Prob hard to explain but could email photos.
as for rear driveshaft i think its a manual ln/kzn130 as my surf has 1 piece shaft its about 25mm longer than original.
thanks stu

I bent the top tabs down on mounts to lift engine abit as if set to low torque rod hits oil filter.

Cheers Stu that's gold, I'll have a look at it in the daylight and it should be obvious.
Thanks,
John

Hi Stu,
So I had a look under the lux and can see what you explained.
Oh, the lux is a YN 60 not 65 as stated with a G52 trans.
Re the front drive-shaft it looks as though it will require shortening the 45mm the engine is moved forward?
Re the exhaust did you do a cross-over to the original L/H side to avoid running it past the gas tank?
Thanks again,
John

Dont know what happened with mine but welded mounts in as to space engine forward 40mm but only ended up 25 - 30mm.
exhaust is 2.5 inch out of ln61 surf so already xd over
I had a spare front shaft i shortened slightly.

Thanks Stu,
I can sort the bits before I start so it should be relatively easy.
Thanks for your help.

A couple more questions,
Do I have to use the charcoal evap canister cos I don't have one?
Is the bodylift essential to clear bellhousing?
Cheers

I did hook it up, all though had to trace wiring back to ecu plug where it had been cut.
Prob get away with out bodylift i just found it was going to be abit tight to get at bolts etc and wanted bit more space for exhaust.
