how strong are rugger diffs?

Postby tuk » Fri Aug 24, 2012 9:57 am

Hi
Im going to do the holden 3.8 conversion on my 1990 rugger 2.8dt. my mates are running the same conversion (in a suzuki and bighorn) with lux diffs and both seem to be having front diff troubles.
Has anyone run a 3.8 v6 with daihatsu diffs and did they handle it?

cheers

just found this on a uk forum....surprisingly the diahatsu axles are heavier then a 70 series toyota landcruiser.

the diahatsu shaft is on the left

you will always have front diff issues with bigger power i think the rocky/rugger etc is 95 horsepower so it's to be expected.
Waiter...there is a drought in my glass.

I was told that daihatsu used hylux specs on there earlier vehicles and now of a lad who used hylux bits on his rugger being daihutsu and toyota are linked then it stands that there would be componant shareing because thats how toyota built all there vehicles
A v6commy will give hylux gear greive aswell more so if running lockers

dunno how they would handle a v6 but had a very tricked up 2lt in my blizzard and never blew a diff/cv with 33s and chains. Even the guy who bought it off me who was a real idiot behind the wheel didn't break it.

I ran 35" silverstones on standard blizzard (f70) running gear with a holden 202 never had an issue. swapped it all out for hilux running gear. broke 2 cv's on my rear axles in 2 hours.. mind you I swapped the 202 for chev 350..
Give it a shot, only greif will be getting spares when you break stuff. I had all sorts of dramas with parts
Dont follow me. i'll get stuck and need a tow..

i snapped a front a axle running 33 monoform mongrels, mind you the diff that that axle came from was in a fairly heavy crash so it may have been weakened. other than that i never had a problem and i was running a slippery in the front end as well as the rear
