Rugger whines in 5th

Postby Marco Polo » Wed Nov 06, 2013 4:26 pm

My rugger has a good gearshift, nice and quiet in all gears except 5th which has a noticeable whine, the tone is just in that annoying range, so I find myself cracking a window to drown it out. Previous owner said this was his 3rd Rocky/Rugger and they all whined in 5th. Can any of you rugger drivers out there comment on that statement?
How hard can it be?

Mine doesn't whine either. I would change the oil and put some Morey's in with the new oil see if it goes away.

165,000k's. It's dead quiet in every other gear. I think I'll drop the oil though because it is probably full of GL-5 eating my synchros away...

Mine was an absolute PITA to drive when it was cold, was stiff as fark. Dropped the oil and put the recommended Castrol oil in and now it shifts like a new one.
