Spot light trouble shooting

Postby p.marsh » Mon Feb 24, 2014 5:00 pm

I bought some Hella spotlights off trademe the other day (never been used). I wired them all up to work independently just off the switch. After i wired them all up they dont work.... I can see the switch inside the relay moving when i switch them on and off, but that is all i am getting. I am a complete novice at electrical work.

How do i find where the problem lies?

Cheers

Do you have a multimeter?

You can connect the spotlights directly to the battery to test and confirm the bulbs are okay as a first step.

So if i just ground the light then run a wire straight to the battery it should turn on?

Ok i tested both the lights and they both work so i will just go around the circuit tomorrow and see where the current stops with a multimeter

hay mate sounds as tho u have no power to the terminal 30 or 87 check this as it is the contacts of the relay this meaning the relay is pulling in but not having any power leaving it , going to the lamps

Ok so this is how much of an amateur at wiring stuff up. Turns out they wernt ground properly because of the paint on the chassis. Bit of sandpaper solved the problem. Thanks for the help guys
