15" or 16"

Postby quattro » Sun Oct 07, 2018 7:55 pm

I need to buy new rims and tyres for my discovery 1, need to be 33" or equivalent. Is there any advantage with one or the other?

16 inch tyres tend to be offered in narrower sizing than the 15 inch tyres, e.g. 33/12.5 Vs. 33/10.5

Depends how wide you want you're tyres. If you go 16", you can run 285/75/16 which is around 33x11.50x16. If you go 15" then you are pretty much committed to 12.5" wide tyres. Unless you can get some 33x10.50x15, which are blimin hard to come by at an affordable prcie (unless they're Silvys or something, idk what type of tyre you actually want). One other option for narrower tyres is a 255/85/16 which is about 33 and a bit inches tall and 10" wide. Again, hard to find. Hope that helps

I would like to run an all terrian tyre. Reason for needing to be about 33" is with the engine and gearbox swap it keeps the gearing about right.

285/75/16 seems to be easy enough to get so I'll try and find some rims with the right offset or get the land rover wheels widened
