Postby NJV6 » Sun Apr 26, 2009 8:25 pm

I see these are available new in NZ now and I'll be looking for a new set soon.

Does anyone have any and are they any good in the sticky stuff?

What about the compound used? Are they going to be as hard wearing as the old pattern or better. Chassis construction/side wall improvements? Cut resistance improvements?

Will be very interesting to read about these tyres in 6-12 months time as they get used.

I think they look pretty expensive! Thats why I posted rather than just buying them and maybe it is time to move to something else... I really like my 'old' KM's, and I am not going to mudder's or similar as they are so noisy on the road.

I just can't see the KM2's being as good in the mud as the KM's, and they are too dear for me to be a gunea pig!

my guess is they are based on the bfg krawler, soft compound, good on rocks and mud if you can spin them, just my guess, performance over longevity

Is it meant to be compared performance wise to a Simex though, or more like the old MT which puts it against people buying the likes of Kumho, Goodyear, Hankook etc?

I don't think you can compare it in many off road situations in performance to a Simex! The reason for having a MT is the road manners yet still able to preform to a resonable standard in the mud.

The reason I like my old style MT's (The KM) is they are pretty quiet on the road compared to a bushshot type.

I'd need to try a Kumho on my vehicle to be convinced by them.

they were the best in a shoot out of 14 MT tyres in aussie 4wd mag. Looked the bizzo and sounded good in the article. I wonder if they will last the distance the old KM's did.

Anyone buy some and can give us watchers an idea of their longevity on the road?

The maxxis bighorns were second best tyre in the test for info.

I read a Petersen mag a while back when they were finishing a build. They got to run a few sets over a week of prett intense driving. They had no complaints, no sidewall tears, only a couple of popped beads.

Mind, they were sponsered, they even had a BFG crew follow in trucks to get get feedback and that shit.

Tim.

Oh and I think they harder than the krawler.

Seems the maxxis biughorns keep popping up when it comes to tyre comparissons and nearly trumping the BFG's (and in some tests they do). Food for thought I guess.

I run the KM2's on my truck. But I've never owned a BFG before.
So far I've done approx 7000 on road k's on em. Though they handle better than any other rubber I've tried. I have found they they are wearing moderately. Faster than the Goodyear Wrangers.
I'll throw up some tread depth readings tomorrow.

Its all good Pete, I am not too worried about the wear - it would take me over 2 years to do 7000km!!

But I do want the best on and off road, hence the KM's I have now. But they are down to about 10mm after 5 years. I am quite impressed by the Bighorns but not impressed by the road noise. You may say that is silly given I only do so few k's but I want it to drive well on the road.

We have just got a set, but not quite on the Zuk yet (31" instead of 28", so some other stuff required...).

Going to these from the original BFG MT, and before that were BFG AT's.

Will let you know, but its likely there are others out there.

hi old thread I know but am keen to know what sort of milage members on here are getting out of the KM2. about to spend $1900 on a set of 35x12.5r15 and want to make sure its the right decision.

had a set of KM a while back and thought they were excellent, so hopefully the KM2 is just as good.
