Mud tyre poll

Postby Sausage » Sun Apr 01, 2012 9:18 am

Ok so I've been tossing up for awhile on what tyre to get next....so figured I would start a poll and see what people are running. Could also be useful for future searches. If you vote on guy our could you please also make comment on bits like , cost, mileage, traction (on and off road), noise, wear, um and anything else really. As I said only interested in Mud tyres on everyday runners.

Hope this can be a good useful poll

I think there is a problem with you poll,
it comes back with
The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.

And I only chose one selection criteria.

iv found the buck shots, Bfg km1 and bighorns were good on road. compared with the likes of creepy crawlers and my current iroks 36" but I guess it's cos they are a more hardcore off road tyre.. my iroks at current are noisiest iv heard on the road. but when I had bfg km1s on last truck, 35" I found them not too loud and good handling on road..

all mud tyres are gonna handle like crap on road compared to a/t or roadies really, I find the bigger you go the worse it gets too! haha except slightly more stable with wider width.. but yea my 2c

The problem I see here is all the tyres you have in the list are only A/T's in NZ. I know they are sold as mud tyres, but when you get into the sticky slop they all become tyres made out of mud (slicks) A proper mud tyre will self clean with minimal revs, but will never be any good on the road.
Proper mud tyres are the likes of Chevron (tractor tyres), SAT's, Swampers, Simex, Silverstones and the likes.
Only pointing this out in case you are under the illusion that because the manufacturerer sticks M/T on the side wall they can handle decent mud situations.

Read again what I typed, there is no such thing IMO. You can only get a more aggresive A/T (which is what manufacturers suck you into believing are "Mud Tyres").
Just an observation and frankly I don't give a shit if anyone agree's or not

Yeah right understand these aren't TRUE mud tyres but as I said looking for everyday drivers that will handle a bit of rough stuff (I know it's all a bit of marketing ) maybe say then I'm looking for an aggressive all terrain

Yeah I know there are a few missing the poll only lets me have 10 so that's the list just keep doing what your doing and posting what you have and how they are , looks like the poll not working anyway so who knows

Cheers for the input hope it helps more people than just me

I have read that
"MT" stands for maximum traction.

Check out this site for some great info. It is a US so not all the tire you find in nz are on there.

I have here good things about km2. I ran km's and they lasted ages on road. But pricy.
Latest mod, pin stripes, hit the same branch I did on the way in on the way out.

ford ranger wildtract and sj.

yup I have some of these on my jeep , wore well on road have never had a puncture, ran with heavy duty tubes down to 8 pound off road, excellent traction in the mud, good all round tyre I reckon. Mine are due to be replaced now but only need to buy 3 cause spare is unused, approx $400 each I believe

cheers

Aussie 4wd magazine does reviews on tyres every year or so maybe check their findings. Of course their findings are in aussie conditions so may not be as applicable here.

sumitomo Serengeti tyres rated well some time ago too.

Love my KL-71 Kumho's
Quiet and handle well on-road.
As good as BFG KM2's off-road.

Reasonable kms out of them considering how they get chewed up spinning on rocks off-road and high cornering forces on-road.

On my second set.
