ok so after going around red rocks today one of my simex's is leaking from the side wall which has a cut in it (bugger) , anybody know of anyone in wellington that can vulcanizie it ? , would rather fix it than put a tube in it because from my experience with tubes they always get pinched and leak which i cant be bothered with , any ideas would be much appreciated.
Cheers , Tim.

Re: Tyre Vulcanizing ?
if you cant find anybody around your ways talk to the "tyre doctor" in otahuhu in south auckland
he has fixed tyres for me that had bad rock damage in the side walls, a bit of a "scar" where the repair was but good to go, i also told him what i did and tyre pressures etc and he said they were still all good

Re: Tyre Vulcanizing ?
throw up a few pics of it if you can
if its only a little cut and not broken any cords, it could be as simple as chucking a sidewall patch on the inside

Honestly....and I don't know how many of you guys know this...the vulcanising ONLY seals the tyre so it can't get water etc into the cords. The actual strength in the repair is from the reinforced patch you put on the inside.
You can repair it with up to 6 or so broken cords (about a 10mm cut from memory) as the patch strengthens it up again.
And,
If you're only going to use it offroad, and not worried about how long it lasts (the cords will rot after a period of time) just get ya local shop to put one of the patches in there, and it'll be fine....for a while. I guess you could put one on the outside too, just to seal it (I've never tried this...dunno if it'll stay there...) if you really wanted, or if it's only small, pull a straight plug through it (with the patch inside still). You just want it to seal.

been vulcanising for over 10 years
almost all my repairs are on 4wd tyres and most for the trials guys where its a trailered vehicle
I have a done a few for the road beofre but pretty much state that its 'all care and no responsibility' and my advice would be to only use the repaired one for a spare
besides, some of the 3-4" slices I've repaired are fairly obvious and would never get another WOF anyway
