WRX off-roader

Postby mchl » Sat Apr 27, 2013 3:27 pm

Hi,

I am after a set of off road tyres for a 96 WRX hatch for light off road use.

Anyone know of any that would fit the factory subaru rims (currently has 195/60/r15)? Could go up to 75 sidewalls.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

From memory the early outbacks had 205/70-15's and you could buy some all terrain tyres in some brands in that size, this size also is the same as the early honda crv's. Maybe you could squeeze these under the gaurds? Will change rolling diameter though so speedo and gearing be out...

if you know how to groove tyres with a large modified soldering iron just buy some second hand snow tyres and increase the void between blocks.

yeah man, rally tyres.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 301051.htm

otherwise you tend to see guys in the US fit things like BFGoodrich AllTerrains and Yokohama Geolanders
They also tend to bugger round with suspension and stuff like that too, though. After a quick google around you'll be shit out of luck for the sizing you want.
You could do a subframes/engine crossmember type bodylift like the outback type legacies have to get some sweet extra clearance but I'd hazard a guess you don't want to spend that kind of coin!!

Thanks for the info. Rally tyres look like the way to go. Thanks for the TM link!

Its actually a gravel express model and I have just installed 1 inch spacers so it has enough clearance for what i will be using it for.

Got a small portable winch too. haha.

Should be a bit of fun when i get some tyres sorted!

nice!
do any of them have the push button centre diff lock like some toyota caribs, and mazda familias and stuff had?
Would totally love a subaru brumby or Leone wagon with the dual range and diff locking gearbox.

I will definitely put up some pics when shes done. At the moment it is just a slightly raised gravel express wrx. No centre diff lock.

Should look pretty good once it gets some tyres, mud flaps, bull bars and hella spottys. thinking of having the entire thing sprayed black when its done too.

have you seen this? super sweet way of checking what'll happen when you put different sized tyres on.

205/70r15 will be ever so slightly smaller rolling diameter, but 10mm wider than a 195/75r15 (the max prescribed in your first post).

Google chrome wont let me run the calculator..

I was wondering if the width would be ok? Would replacing my current 195 with a 205 work?

Any MT on this will be super noisy on the road as the car has no chassis, ask anyone who has put MT's on a soft roader.

205 will likely fit. Jokers run rally cars on this width.

weird that the calculator wont run on chrome for you. works fine for me. there's a link on that pages to run it as an older version which isn't java i think

Years ago I used to have a Mitsi Cordia 4wd it had 14" rims with low profile tyres and i decided it needed rally tyres made it look so much harder, managed to drive it over devils gate at red rocks with those tyres on
my 4wd is not a truck
