Fitting a 35x11.5 to a 16x7 rim

Postby muddyplumber » Sat Apr 26, 2014 5:49 pm

Looking at running some 35x11.5 r16 silverstones on the landrover. Was in at tire general and the guys there were telling me it's not a good idea and they haven't done it before etc....
The rims are 16x7 Mach 5s, they are very heavy duty. Can anyone else see an issue with this combo? Can I get away with a 12.5" tire or that pushing it? I've read about guys running the 16x7 -35s combo, people say it is fine but a lot of people are really against it.

they'll fit sweet mate the Silverstone is a narrow case so it'll fit on a 7 or 8 inch rim no prob, they also work fine on a 10 inch rim if they are beadlocked, only problem you may face is legality for wof/certification etc if that's applicable to you the tyres will have to be fitted onto a rim size that the manufacturer specifies

Kool that's the feeling I was getting, was just starting to wonder as two tyre shops were really against fitting them...I will run another set of road tires so not really an issue with cert. Was thinking of bead locking these rims, then it brings me to something else.By beadlocking are you actually making the rim slightly wider by doing doing so?
Cheers for the reply

Should be fine on the Mach5's. We ran 35x10.5x16 Simex on 7-inch rims with Project Re A Range.

biggest problem with a tyre that size will probably be turning circle and chassis rub.... as well as bent drag links :D

Have a mate with a Discovery with same tyres, standard axles aren't up to the job, He's rooted lots of drive shafts, cv's and diffs.
May the force be with you.
