AT/M, MT, Tyre Options, Safari.

Expected use is 50% road, 30% gravel 10% mud, 5% sand, 5% miscelaneous.

Current are hankook MT/R 31x10.5 R15
They've worn well, but are not muddy enough even at 15psi.
I am not concerned by road noise or looks. Extra ibration would annoy me though.
I need handling and grip.

Choice of rims is the alloys, approx 9" wide, which I don't like the idea of.
Or a set of steelies, guessing 7 or 7.5"

I want to go 33" unless anyone can convince me not to, just for a bit longer legs.
So approx 33x10.5 R15 pinched down onto a 7" rim.

Top pick is BFG TA/KM2 at about $2200 the set.
Second Baja ATZ, similar price but haven't confirmed.

Other choices include Maxxis MT764, Nankang N889 (although me experience with other nankangs is that they're hard compound, which suits me for wear life, but maybe not grip)

Then I see these Vitour MT, and some Delium "Terra Warriors" which have no reviews online and precious little information, but these two are half the price, which appeals if they make 60-70% as good as the premium options...

I realise this may be a bit Speights vs Red, but opinions, input and feedback from you guys is appreciated.

I see the market getting flooded with these no frills mud tyres today because everyone's buying the look. Expect noise and low mileage.

I was one of those suckers. I was looking at purchasing bfgoodrich at km2s (as my current set was the km1s and they had been on the truck since new - 80kms and they still had tread, we're just cracking from age) also in that size but at half the price I went for a set of hercules trail diggers because I liked the look. Instant regret. Noisy as, unpredictable tyre. Grips pretty good in the slop though have got me out of places I can guarantee the ATs wouldn't have.

Next time I'm going for the name brands.

If ya looking for 33 x10.5, good luck.

Closest you will get is 255 85 R16, which are available in both Maxxis 762 and BFG a/t and Km2 m/t.

I rate both those tyres, Maxxis wear well for price, BFG m/t wear even better, but price is $$$$$?????

255 85 r16 = 33.2 X 10.5 roughly.

I would hate to have to fork out for 16" rims as well!

Maxxis Buckshot are worth a look, reasonably priced. I put them on a LWB patrol, drove to chch from auckland for a trip up the rivers in the Canterbury high country, went well. Decent road manners, didn't really get in too much mud. Don't know about longevity as I sold the truck.

I ran 33x10.5 bfg on a 7 inch rim and have just bought a new set as I was happy with them. Unfortunately limited to bfg only.

Going from a 31 to a 33 will really knock the wind out of the sails on road.
SWB V6 Paj with one or two mods ;)
