Surf n Snow wrote:hi, this is not a definite order, but i will be keen on a 4 spider surf rear and ifs front when i have funds (waiting on sale of car). im assuming that since the rear diff is open that the front will also be? how much $$$ for the set?
just wondering would it be best to install manual freewheeling hubs before installing the front?
thanks

Yes, if you have a surf with the ADD disconnect. The right hand side is fixed alway the through to the diff and normally spins the spider gear but with the locker it will then turn the whole diff head and front drive shaft. Get a set of free wheeling hubs but only install one on the right hand side and throw the other in the back as a spare. The left hand side utilizes the automatic differential disconnect and with the manual on the right you have eliminated the front diff. Dont worry about the left CV spinning they are a dime a dozen from all the wrecked and SASed surfs around, even if its just the boot gone, much cheaper than spare free wheeling hubs are to come by.

oh yeah and go the twin locked surf

Note, got one of the Nissan ones back as it did not fit Contour's diff for some reason, still brand new. There seem to be some variations of the H233 diff.

Hi Mike,
$500, front, not sure of the exact reason, Contour just said it didn't fit.

Fakey got one also, not sure if he has fitted it yet, but he did make the following comments.
"Thanks for the reply Tim, I did some research an found that the H233 diffs only come with 4 pinnions.
They are commonly found (In NZ) in terrano rear diffs. Some are LSD an some are open which this locker will fit into.
So today I went to pick a part to get a terrano rear diff, they only had on terrano (last month they had 4) so I pulled the diff out an bought it. The one I got has an lsd centre so I swapped the Lsd centre into my spare diff head. Its very simple you just swap the crownwheel onto the lsd centre.
Once I track down an open 4 pinnion diff ill put the locker into that.
Cheers
Warren"

Stinky has first dibs on it if he wants it.

Cheers
Tim

I havent fitted my one yet
The problem contour may have run into (assuming he has a patrol) it that the patrol front diff is only 2 pinnion so the locker wont fit that.
The terrano h233 is a 4 pinnion centre I just swapped the terrano lsd centre into my patrol diff head
To use the locker youll need an open terrano h233 centre which is what ill be putting my locker into once my truck is up an running
Didn't barbie drive a jeep??
