I think it takes the cake that he accused me of running the red light first... how did he not notice a fekkin 2 and a half tonne Safari sitting next to his Boxter for what must have been over 40 seconds at the lights. I was indicating left the whole time!!

Classic.
Good editing mate.
Some drivers aye.

Just looking at some of your other dash cam footage. With a dash cam that shoots @1080p @30fps you actually have a better chance to read the number plates on clips rather than having to take note of them manually.
These ones (http://www.blackvue.co.nz/) are very expensive but they are true HD @1080. There is an advantage to full HD quality. Like passing the video clip to the law as evidence.

Yea, would have been very tempting especially having the video to prove you're in the right.
Good on you for not potentially bringing a bad name to 4x4s (and bullbars) tho.
Hopefully you stopping and telling him where he went wrong will stop him making the same mistake again. A very common error here in Nelson (swapping lanes through an intersection), but no issue of two (same direction) lanes turning same way to encounter situation in video.

Great video. Like the way he tries one tact and then tries another. Would have been usefully if he had hit you.

Have you ever used this off road, is the mount good?

Hope you have a dash cam. I'm tempted to try to setup a business selling these cameras to Insurance companies here in New Zealand, as they do in Russia (buy insurance, they send you camera and its written into the policy). It takes an enourmous amount of the guess work out of any accident.

The mounts work just fine off road :-) just a windscreen suction cup.

petefj40 wrote:These ones (http://www.blackvue.co.nz/) are very expensive but they are true HD @1080.

Tooooo expensive to justify for me mate. $70 shipped is more than "a lot" cheaper than a black vue.

DaveM wrote:Should have used the bullbar, not the horn!

tempting - believe me. but who wants to go thru insurance hassles if they don't need to. They make me pay higher premiums if i screw up, but don't give me a discount for being in the right

The cameras work from 12v - 24v - better order one??

Yes- the links I provided are of the equipment I'm using.
As for your camera, I'm sorry mate, looks like you got the low resolution rip-off copy of my one. Have you got any clips on youtube so that I could confirm?

Here is the genuine one reviewed: http://dashcamtalk.com/dvr-027-720p/

Original vs Fake Models

Given the popularity of this camera, there are dozens of fake models available for sale. There are numerous ways to tell the difference between original DVR-027 models and fake models.

The original records the time on the top center of the screen with black numbers on a white background. Fakes use green numbers and write them to the side.
The original uses the H.264 codec. Fakes use the mjpeg codec
The original records at: 640×480, 848×480, 1280×720. Fakes records at 720×480 instead of 848×480. Fakes may offer 800×600 or 1280×720, but will record at 640×480 (resolution is interpolated).
The original records in AVI format. Fakes record in MOV format.
The original viewing angle is 120 °. Fakes viewing angle ~ 40-60 °.
The original has an HDMI output. Fakes do not have an HDMI output (for example, it is replaced with a sticker). Some of the fakes have an HDMI port, but it is not connected to the board
The original has a removable battery. Fakes do not have removable batteries.
Original comes in a blue box. Fake comes in a white box.
A good rule of thumb is that if the camera is selling for under $50, it is a fake.

Note that fake DVR-027 may have some or many of the above features. So pay attention to all the features not just a specific feature. Purchasing from a reputable seller will help you purchase an original version.

Most of the fake DVR-027′s are just low quality Standard Definition cameras instead of High Definition cameras. The SD version of this camera is worth $17.50.

The bit that gives it away on the "firstin" site is:

Effective pixel: 640 x 480
and
3 x digital zoom

I agree totally.
But can you find one that is of the same spec and quality for less money?
I have the MiWitness dash cam that is only 720p and it's shit quality, pixelated as. You can't make out a moving number plate 50meters away. But with the Black Vue at least it's legible. That's what I'm after, legible number plates.

Have a seach on DX.com for true 1080p cameras, they'll usually support GPS too.

Also have a read of the camera review site I linked above.

is that DX site a paypal based one? can't get onto it at work but pretty keen for one of these things.
The trademe knockoff ones were tempting but I'm pretty keen for one with the same picture quality as yours but don't want to spend over a hundy bux if it's do-able for that.

had a look through your vids last night, man these things catch some fail on the roads!

Don't buy one off of TradeMe, its just people reselling stuff from places like DX half of the time!

You probably would enjoy some of my unlisted videos then -.-
