Yes we did see Tim and Al at the Grey River but because it was only mid afternoon we carried on and crossed the Grey River and drove about a Km before coming to an abrupt end. The bank could have been knocked down if there was no damage ahead but after a walk we found we were in tiger country so gave it a miss

It has a 1KZ with intercooler and a Landcruiser 80 series front diff with the coils and Bundera radius rod. Also fitted with diff locks

Nigel works at Just Cruisers in Rangiora so you could contact him there.

Another Chasm photo of where the ramp was to show you what you are up against, but it can be rebuilt because it is easier to do now because the top part of the ramp is still there.

Hi Richard
The rest of the track from where you've taken that photo right through to where we met up with you at the Grey is also still unknown condition as well :?:

Hi Tim
After we met you we went about a Km up the track which was easy. From where the river running down the hill starts is where the problems start and we only walked a hundred metres so beyond that point so we dont know anything about what is in the middle section. I would expect the worst.

Here is Paul dropping back into the Grey opposite where we saw you

cheers Richard,
A stay or 2 at Ikamatua might be on the cards, I might see if I can find somewhere to store the trailer queen over in Reefton or near by and do a few trips with friends before the end of summer
I'll make the effort for sure if confirmed this will be happening 8)

Was the new ramp rebuilt with logs or cut back further into the bank? Is it in the same place as the old ramp?

It has been rebuilt with rocks from the bank. I heard a group went in there and used a ground anchor/winch to bring some of the bank down. You will have to winch up ramp to get out of the Chasem I would be guessing. Nig

That is very good news because now it is open again others can pick away at it and it will improve in no time. :D :D :D

Oh to be young again...It would have probably taken me 5 hours

5 or 10min for you guys prehaps, there was probably 5 or 6hrs of work put into it before a local group pulled out because of bad weather leaving only the glory work left to do :D good to see others helping to open it up.

I will try and post a video how flooded the clarke river was when it was crossed.

Hi Steve.
You guys from Westport need a medal for the the work you have done in there. I doubt if it would have ever been reopened if you guys hadn't done the donkey work first. :D :D :D

yea when we got to it it looked like someone else had a stab at it,thea was a few logs stacked at the bottom and the drop was only just over a meter from ramp to river bed so a couple of drags of the land anchor and the was enough gravel to drive it

Hey flexy, did you guys come from the clarke end? Was the ramp driveable or was it a winch up out of the chasm? Cheers Stephen

na we came from the grey end and made the ramp so we could all drive down,i rekon you woulda been able to drive a fair way back up to but didnt have time to try as we were on a mission to get a few broken trucks out,if not drivable it would have been a fairly easy winch

Thanks for posting the Vids, it hasn't had much use by the look of it. Hopefully the track will be used more now which will help keep it open.

How long did it take you to drive from Waipuna to the Snowy road ?

Cheers Richard
