EOI xmas/ new years roadies 2013/14

Postby skid » Sat Feb 16, 2013 6:10 am

had a plan in my head for years now

a simple roadie, sealed roads and gravel roads with a small 4wd detour in the middle

wellington - stratford - taumaranui (via forgotten highway) - 42 traverse - taihape - hawkes bay (via gentle annie) - masterton - wellington.

trying not to use main highways as much as possible

freedom camping everywhere and anywhere

possibly 4-6 days of cruising

whos keen

Intelligence is like a four-wheel drive. It allows you to get stuck in more remote places.

got a map dude

is this turning off 43 and then hopping back on 43 further along :?:

dont want to miss out on the tunnels etc on 43

can the bridge be accessed from 43 with minimal detour

Or do what we did a few years ago and go through whangamomona and out through the paper road that crosses Aotuia (sp?) station. Brings you out closer to Taumaranui. Nice drive through the station.
