Red Rocks, Wellington

Postby dutchy » Fri Sep 06, 2013 5:22 pm

Hi all,
Seems to be a few topics from people giving late notice.

Thought i'd start a topic as i head around there basically every weekend (sometimes for a play and if conditions are good a freedive)

flick me a text if you are keen (or post up here but may miss it) will post up some footage aswell if there is something worth mentioning.

Will be meeting a couple trucks at 11 tomorrow (7/9/13) if anyone else wants to join.

Cheers
Chris

Any one keen for this saterday? along with the usual suspects. Plenty of recovery capability and gear if it is needed. Tide dependent on how far around we go (as always)

tracks washed out just past the first lot of batches.
pulled out a surf stuck on his rear diff while going through there.
still passable on the old track if your trucks not super wide.

yeah is a touch narrow but the hilux had plenty of room and followed a disco that made it with a lot of room to spare. wellington drivers will need to learn the size of there trucks.... pulled a guy out of that spot a couple weeks ago aswell

nothing like learning the size of your truck like taking it through slippery forest! (branches & bog hole like to attack LWB utes in there  )

head to Brooklyn, straight through the shops, down ohiro/happy valley road to the coast(owhiro bay), turn right. follow your nose.

also had to save this guy from the surf  notice the tide line in the sand

nothing quite like draging diffs through the sand that cant be dug out as the swell puts it all back

dont normally bother with cave bay. normally go to the bog holes.

its soft yeah but thats not what im worried about generally.
I got 12.5 tyres but tim has simex with no probs either but we air down to 10-12psi.
Im more worried about how tidal it is and how easy it is to get be stuck there (unless you like to drive through the salt water like the blue mu)

Went out last night,
Right at the entrance almost there is a big debris pile from the stream that has flowed across the road.

Which means most cars & soft roaders might have ground clearance issues going over.
Not that people take those kind of cars out there:wink:
Otherwise a perfect evening for a fish & fireworks.

would that mean it would be worse at karori stream? or did you not go that far around?

exit carpark and cross the little stream and then the next 100m is very soft at the moment

sat and watched and laughed at the recovery of a 2wd ute the other weekend

nothing further round was as soft as that, unless you were too close to the water

Sorry just reread and i meant to say the first hump after you cross the stream at the start. (Must be a water catchment further up that burst after all the rain) & brought all the shitty shingle down onto the track.

I went to the stream on the tuesday and it was reasonably soft after the frying pan. (Massive wire rope fence).

I found he first 100m the most fun. Bury boot and hang on for the ride!
