Macetown - 6 Jan 2014

Postby Snafu » Fri Nov 29, 2013 9:50 am

My Wife and I will be doing a trip into Macetown 6 Jan 2014 while I am down in the South Island, I have been in there once but that was with Nomad Safaries.

If anyone else is around that day and wants to join us you're more than welcome. Will be at the starting area by the Sign about 9.00am

We will be in a Silver Land Rover Discovery 3. PRS Channel 16, hopefully we don't drown it:-)

Cheers
Ivan

We did Skippers and the Branches Dec 31/Jan1 - stayed in over night. We also did the Nevis and Poolburn to Onslow via the Serpentine.

Will do Macetown some day. We got to the main middle river crossing in my Dad's RAV4 last year but the rain was coming down and river was rising and tracks getting slippery so headed back out.
Sold my 1985, BJ74 MWB Landcruiser, rear locker, 33" MTs, snorkel, PTO winch, solid bars all round, spotties, AM CB etc.
Now just a 1994, 1kz Surf, pretty standard.

Yup I camped out there one year and it rained all night. Made it half way home the next day then drowned the suzuki in one of the crossings. For Mace town you really need to watch the weather.

What was serpentine church track like? Going south to north was getting interesting leaving the church last time I went.

Did you do the bottom track at macetown? I would like to explore that part next time I'm up that way

I never knew about poolburn, but did Nevis the following day.
Got very wet about 1/3rd into it coming from Cromwell end so last 1/3 was starting to get to be fun. The couple of dirt bits starting to get a bit sticky but had no problems

I went up past the hut at macetown and came back down the river from a couple of Km's past the hut, a few small scratches but they will polish out ok.

Never really had too much time to explore only headed in there just after 3pm and had a 7pm dinner booking at Millbrook.
