Doors will be straight(ish) by then. They just have a bit of character. I might try get some bars on before this trip , just in case.

Nuts has asked me if anyone is interested in heading to Westport for a day to go through Smiths Clearing, which is up on the Karamea bluffs.
I think it will make for a real long day as it is going to be two hours on road to get there.
Thuoughts?
what other tracks are people keen on?
I want to have a look at Wills Claim so keen on Slab hut/petrol hill.
keen to check out places I haven't seen so who has ideas?

Id be keen on having alook at smiths clearing, myself and afew others will be heading over on the Thursday and basing ourselves in Westport. We were looking at doing tailings, denniston and maybe having alook around seddonville if time allows.

I'd be keen for one day at Westport (Fri or Sat), one full day at Reefton and a short day at Reefton on Sun b4 heading home. I'll book in for Thurs night at Reefton so if we wanted to head through early Fri to westport thats fine.

Can I suggest Friday to go through Smiths Clearing if guys are keen? and then Saturday/Sunday in Reefton.
Or does anyone have other ideas or preferences??

I'm booked in cabin at motor camp Thurs night. Westport Fri works for me. Might not have a winch the way things are going but I'll be there. You OK if a mate and his boy come up with trail bikes? No stress if you want to keep it to ORE trucks. Not sure if he can make it anyway but he was keen to come over after I showed him our Easter pics. Cheers S.

The more the merrier, not sure how bikes will go in Smiths, I haven't been in there before so no idea.
Saw your post re the new winch, looks like a small mission ahead of you.

Would have been good to do Smith's Clearing but need to work and pay the bills Friday.
Will keep an eye out for you guys when I get down off the hill.
Can't do Sunday but if you're still around Westport Saturday might see if I can tag along.
Nothing on my winch yet so will depend where you go and if you willing to put up with me tagging along a tag along.....
Unless someone wants a seat warmer of course

Not sure on plans yet Bev, but potentially in Reefton for the Saturday. I have no passengers for the weekend.

So how about meeting up outside the campground in Westport at 8.30 for a 9am start to head out to Smiths Clearing, if time allows we can find somewhere else to head afterwards.
Saturday in Reefton for the day, start into Petrol Hill and up into Wills Claim.

Sounds reasonable, tho I might be closer to 9 by time I kick the 2 kids out of bed, get some breakfast into them, then an hour or so Reefton through to Westport.
New winch didn't get sorted yet. Pulled the ends off the old one, scraped out some rust, gave the sparky end a dose of CRC, gave the other end a dollop of new grease and bolted it back in to the truck after drilling some extra holes in the new mount plate.
