No Name Road off Rutherglen Road is open, they have finished logging in that area. 4wd track (Blackwater) access is straight across the intersection that the No Name Road comes on to. Not sure if that is 100% passable into Kumara due to a slip at the third river crossing,

Big River is a goody cruisy trip, good way to fill in a day, or overnight at the DOC hut in there, just stay to the tracks so you don't bugger up any of the historical sites in there.

To go in from the Ahaura end there is a contact number for access, not sure what it costs. Have a search and you should find the info somewhere on here.

There is another way in. On the Ikimatua side where you drop in to a creek next to a side road on the way to Gold Nuggets motocross track.
