:D To right!!!
Thats one of the biggest things i hate about living down here, not having every thing at your finger tips. Back in Hamilton the clutch would have been done last thursday by some one for a lot better price.
They reckon 10 hrs labour:shock:

Some times i think if things moved any slower down here it really would be going backwards. I rang them at lunch time, and he assured me it would be ready, and that the mechanic was going to start it tonight.
Tonight????
Ah well, just have to wait and see.
Worst thing is, if they threw a new slave cylinder at it, and i attacked the clutch with some brake cleaner through the starter motor hole i reckon it would survive the weekend.
But once they make a start theres no going back!!!
V stress full

Well I got the Tirfor and some more ropes.... packed the truck by about 6pm, then finally worked out what the grinding noise was, I thought it was the new front pads bedding in.... but NO!!! the rear pads had nothing left..... oh shit!!!! so had two options:

1: pinch the brake line to the rear, drive to greymouth repco, get new pads

2: drive round everyone I know and see if someone has brake pads.

At about 6:30 found someone with pads ... woohooo .... so just spent the last half hour fitting them.... panic averted..... but wasted a can of Speights :( had just opened it, when I thought I'd better check out the grinding.... ah well

Am leaving at 6amish so should be with you mid afternoon.... just have to pack the coolbox in the morning :D

Still no news from my passengers....ahh well..... looks like they'll miss out.

Looks like every one made it home ok :D
Awesome trip, great company, and a couple of challenging bits for good measure!!!

I think most people had some minor damage, exhausts, rear bumpers, and or course i bashed those bloody rear corners in the safari a few more times. Better book it in to get them removed.
Looking forward to getting everyones photos together!!

looks like you guys had a good trip. I told you Bill that none of you would get away without any damage at all, thats the westcoast for you boys. And those Safarias: all of them get damaged rear corners on the westcoast. We should organise a piss trip into the Waitahu for a night. Best to be mid week as there will be no one in the hut then. What do you all think.

Peter,
don't you find the Waitahu gets a little cramped over weekends. Are you able to do weekday trips, if not then a weekend will have to do, I'll just take my tent in case the hut is full. Good place for a pss up trip though.

It's near Reefton, about three hours from Chch over the Lewis pass. We drove past the road, and crossed the bridge over the river on our way to Reefton from the end of the Mackley track.
Its a great track, about 90% of it is challenging, i struggled with it last time i went, i had only had the Safari two weeks, and was batteling with the length of the bonnet and where the left front wheel was. I suceeded in ripping three mud flaps off, and denting both sills. One really badly, the drivers door wouldn't open. Did i mention i had only had the vehicle two weeks??
Al, your right, there were three other vehicles up there hunnting at the time. I can do week days. Basically i work a month were my days off fall on weekends, and then a month when they are on weekdays. I can usually work somthing out with my counterpart.

Padero,
pull a sickie or you will be camping at the waitahui and every time I have been there it rains. Peter: sorry to hear what the waitahui did to your truck, I have had some damage every time I have been down there, but it is a great place to go for a 4wd piss up.
